Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced that the Canucks have acquired a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Conor Garland.
Garland’s contract extension (and no movement clause) kicks in on July 1, 2026.

Not a great return.. on a reasonable contract.
We have a great 2027 and 2028 draft to come!
This franchise is nuts. If they get rid of Brock? I'm insulted as a fan. What franchise will have traded every name brand player in the course of one year? They signed ALL THESE GUYS. They gave away picks 1 or 2 years ago. Now a year or 2 later all they want is draft picks. There is zero foundation. Hronek? LOL. Trust me. The young players will only know about losing. What quality players will come to this fire sale? It's worst than the worst season and era. No more connection to the community. Get rid of Brock and it's all over. Aside from that, things are awesome!
They probably should have gotten more, especially if that's all they get done

I would've gotten 2nd round picks for this year and next year instead. But I guess I'll take the draft capital we got.

Easiest way to open up more cap space, but who would be willing to sign here long term come July 1st?? Maybe veteran/leadership signings won't be needed if they have all these draft picks coming up.

All these 2nd , 3rd or 4th round draft picks are nice but the chances of any of these picks to be top players or keepers for the future is slim to none.
Worked his ass off but at his size you have to be a superstar to be on a winning stanley cup team. Frees up cap space, as long as you draft properly should eventually be a win.
why? Consciously eliminating every skilled, fast, exciting player from the lineup leaves me with virtually nothing to watch or cheer for. I guess I'll have to come back in 4 or 5 years. See ya.

I think moving that 6×6 contract is actually a significant part of the deal. Now the Canucks have the capacity to use that cap space to take on a short-term bad contract in a trade that would also come with more draft capital. The draft picks themselves may actually not amount to anything (2nd round of CBJ would be around 45th to 50th overall so it is not a guarantee that the player would be a regular NHLer; 3rd round pick is even a longer shot) but I guess the more picks you have, the more chances you have to land a good player.
