Thursday’s episode begins with a reaction to the Chicago Blackhawks’ second trade ahead of Friday’s deadline, with veteran center Jason Dickinson and young winger Colton Dach getting dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2027 conditional first-round pick and forward Andrew Mangiapane. Host Jack Bushman breaks down why this is another excellent trade for GM Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks, why there’s no downside in taking a gamble on Mangiapane, and what the lineup looks like for the final 21 games of the season. The episode concludes with an update on 2024 first-round pick Sacha Boisvert. All that and more on Locked On Blackhawks. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Your Team. Every Day.

QUESTION OF THE DAY — What Grade Do YOU Give GMKD For Trading Jason Dickinson & Colton Dach For A 2027 First-Round Pick (Top 12 Protected) & Andrew Mangiapane?
Great trade…no downside. Need to find playing time for these kids with more in the pipeline. Thanks Stan !
Good lord Stan is such a clown 😅😅😅
Longtime Blackhawk fan from Florida. My name is Joe. SI just want to say how much I appreciate your show and your enthusiasm. Keep up the great work.
So year 6 for Connor is when we expect to be competing
l
I’m starting to suspect Bowman is still on the Blackhawks payroll.😂
The most thorough NHL rebuild of all time. #2 to the Thunder for all sports all time.
2024 first rd pick?
Both trades are great trades for both sides. The Hawks get additional high draft picks for guys that are on expiring contracts and not part of their ling term plans.
The Oilers get 2 defensive minded players to shore up the defense and PK in front of their goalie for a playoff run. If the Oilers used those draft picks, those players drafted wouldn't touch the NHL til 2031.
Hopefully, McDavid becomes a UFA and signs with the Hawks.
Not a bad trade at all for the future, but time will tell how good. Dach likely wasn’t going to be anything more than a 4th liner. Dickinson is getting up there and although a solid player not a game breaker by any means. However, you can stockpile all the first round picks you want but at the end of the day you still have to draft well and develop those players and hope they gel for it to be worth anything. Totally agree with KD’s strategy and impressed with most of the trades he’s made so far but not always impressed with some of the draft selections and development of the players over the last few years.
Good/great picks: Bedard, Nazar, (hopefully Frondell)
Potential Bad picks: Levshunov, Korchinski
Time Will tell: moore, lardis, rinzel, boisvert, vanacker
Just saying there should be more established “hits” at this point with so many high picks. Also, not giving up on Levshunov by any means. He has a great skill set…but was he worth a #2?
Did you forget Davidson can't draft to save his life?
Only downside I can see, is we are running out of players who can fight….and those old enough to buy beer 🍺
IMO, Reichel leapfrogged by Lardis. Dach leapfrogged by a prospect like Spellacy. And 2/3 years down road they cycle will continue. The hope is Frondell will leapfrog a vet like Burakovsky. Rinzel over Jones. Lev over Murphy. Greene over Dickenson. Moore over Mikeyev Lardis over Donato. The real rebuild is having drafted prospects take/ fill true Top 9 and Top 4 positions at NHL level. So far IMO, the Blackhawks have managed 2 Top 9, 2 Top 4 D, and a Top Goalie. Reichel unfortunately didnt show enough and was recycled. Unfortunately maybe Korch too. Remains to be seen. Its gonna happen again, and again. Future is bright with the ton of prospective top 4 and top 9 “replacements” we have on the way in near future. Not all will stick, which is why we still NEED some vets and a couple top All-Star type FA. But some prospects will. Keep trading vets on expiring contract to load up on top draft picks. Keep rebuild mode on. Commit to the Indian..
