Colton Parayko SAYS NO to the Buffalo Sabres after trade with the St. Louis Blues is completed

The Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues agreed on a trade that would send Colton Parayko to the Sabres in exchange for prospect defenseman Radim Mrtka and a 1st round pick, but Parayko exercised his no-trade clause to block the move. The reporting is he will only waive his clause to stay out west on a team like Anaheim or Los Angeles. How bad a look is this for the Sabres? Fans are not happy that the team still finds themselves in a situation where it’s hard to convince players to come to Buffalo.

Jarmo Kekäläinen very clearly is trying to make a big trade by Friday’s NHL trade deadline. If it’s not going to be Parayko, and it’s not going to be Robert Thomas, who else is out there? Is there another Blue? What about Devils defenseman Simon Nemec? There is a very real chance the biggest trade the Sabres make is for Rasmus Ristolainen.

  1. I just hope – after starting off loaded for bear (Thomas and Parayko) – Jarmo isn't embarrassed about coming home with much smaller game. If he can add a couple of depth-d-men, he can still take a bow. We've seen blueliners moved today who would have been cheap but nonetheless useful rentals.

  2. The NHL should get rid of the no trade clause. Let the chips fall where they may. The NHL would be more interesting and therefore more profitable ultimately. I mean who talks about the winner of a big trade when the trade is never made! Gretzky wouldn't even get it.

Hey, NHL, wake up! You need to learn more about how marketing ideas improve your product. I'm retired but I am available for hire. Hit me up!

  3. Jarmo said it best. Win first, everything else will follow. Making the playoffs for the first time in 14 years looks like a lock. Great. However this guy recently helped St. Louis win a Cup and he still may not be convinced Buffalo is a destination yet. And let’s not forget Ryan O’Reilly played on that Cup winner in St. Louis the year after getting traded from the Sabres and I doubt he had glowing reviews to share about the Buffalo organization.

  4. Yarmo has proven to be an utterly incompetent jackass. With less than 24 hours left before the trade deadline, what has he actually done? He spent the last 60 hours waiting for an answer from Parayko—a player who literally has a Full No-Move Clause.
What’s the result? No Parayko, no Thomas. Connor Murphy went to Edmonton for practically nothing, and Myers headed to Dallas. I can only hope he has enough common sense left not to bring Rasmus Ristolainen back to the club. If he does that, he should be fired immediately.
Despite having every tool to strengthen this team—draft picks, prospects, cap space—the Finn has done absolutely nothing. This team is nowhere near ready for the playoffs; we lack defensive depth and a strong stay-at-home right-handed defenseman.
What’s his next move? Signing Tuch to an 11.5 million, 8-year extension? The entire trade period was wasted chasing two St. Louis players with NMCs. Meanwhile, other teams are loading up and snagging the best defenders for a bag of pucks.
    It’s a disgrace

  5. Obviously this seems to be a sellers market teams are paying through the nose for quality players Toronto got a 1st round pick for Nick Roy who has 20 points in 59 games although that pick will be at the very end of the first round

  6. They're not getting Thomas. St. Louis is totally fine with keeping him until the end of the year and have all the leverage in bargaining. That price would completely alter the current gel of the group.

  7. This is a testament to how good players really feel about this city, this team, this area!!! NO one wants to come here that is of value.

  8. Very few people want to live in the State of NY with its high taxes and pro criminal laws! Add that and then ask someone to live in Buffalo it’s a hard sell!!

  9. It's worth noting that the Hockey Guy (another YouTuber) stated that Robert Thomas already DENIED waiving his NTC to come to Buffalo…so, BOTH St. Louis players says no to the trade. Do some digging SneakyJoe…

  10. A lot of comments nobody wants to come here so I hope we kick everybody's ass and go to the Stanley cup and win it all screwing

  11. Doesn't want to move his family now, but will still consider another trade and will be ok with moving his family then. What a scumbag. Took Weeger 2 hours to make a decision and that moron takes until the next day. No trade clauses are the worst of the worst, no to Risto we don't need that again. OEL from the Leafs is a better choice.

  12. Blues GM initiated the trade talks BEFORE even finding out if parayko would waive the no trade clause. The NHL should fine them and/or take away a draft pick. They wasted buffalos time and took away other potential trades that got picked up by other teams during that duration of time. Armstrong is an absolute scumbag

  13. I think he did think about it for awhile. I'm of the belief he didn't want to be on the 3rd pair. Not just this year but next year too. Beyond that it would depend what we do with Byram but I think thats what he was considering.

  14. The no trade clause is prob the worst possible thing that the NHL does . How's a team supposed to improve?

  15. I get the idea of trading for him. But thank goodness it isn't happening. That's a haul for him. Timmons is coming back. He will relieve some mins pressure. Jarmo seems eager to put his stamp on this team.

  16. Daily listener at the end of the earth, last stop before Antarctica. Cheers from Ushuaia Argentina.

  17. Wow, we really dodged a bullet on this one! His play for the Blues and Canada this year was poor. He currently has back problems. We would have been stuck with this contract for five years! And I do NOT want to trade Mrtka, a possible future star. Now Jarmo has me scared that he wants to make trades like this!

  18. I’m just wondering with all of this talk of trading with the Blues, why Jordan Kyrou’s name hasn’t come up.

It’s one of the names we’d hear daily over the summer, but all of this Blues talk the last couple weeks and no mention of Kyrou.

  19. Blessing in disguise. The players know the GM tried and they also know they can with any team in the league. BTW Parakyo will be 33 in May. Two first rounds is ridiculous.

  20. Hall-e-f-in-lujah!… Dude Sabres dodged a bullet with Parakyo backing out, I was having heart palpitations when I heard that deal was going down… They would of lost Benson, Tuch, or Norris (or possible others) with the cap being where it is next year. They would of been sunk with that 6.5mil contract for 4 years!… Not to mention losing MRTKA and a first. That is terrible value. Myers at like 2mil for 2yrs would make sense… But even still they don't necessarily need it. Sometimes the best play is not to play. I know everyone wants to 'see something happen' this trade deadline. But keep in mind, this team is young and stacked with assets for the long term… You don't want to just throw those assets away. The strategy this trade deadline should be to play 'ultra conservative', with maybe a cheap rental… Something cheap IF ITS GOOD VALUE. Try and squeeze all of these guys into the cap for next year, they really don't have any more wiggle room to add much right now and they don't need much because they are already beating EVERYONE in the league.. the cap is going up by the next year a lot so by then they'll have a little more room to take a swing.. but this team now might win a cup the way it is… They just beat the 2nd best team in the conference on their home ice 6-2 last week 👍 🏒 💯 ⚔️

  21. BUFFALO IS STILL CONSIDERED A ENTERY LEVEL FARM TEAM AND , THE GOLD STANDARD FOR A LOSING CULTURE. THERE MAY EVEN BE INSIDE INFORMATION THAT THE LEAGUE IS RIGGED AGAINST BUFFALO DUE TO THE GLOBALIST'S CURSE. IT'S GONNA TAKE THEM WINNING THE STANLEY CUP TO ERASE THAT NARRATIVE.
