of course any player that injures a player , especially deliberately, should be out as long as the injured player, if that was so you would see a cleaner faster game as well. this is ridiculous, even if the player says he had no intention of hurting him, of course no one really wants to hurt the other guy just put him off his game but most of the time the injury is big enough to keep a player out long so the suspension should be as long as the injured player is out!!!!

if you make it so a player who causes an injury has to stay out as long as the player who is injured…teams MAY fake the length of an injury if it is a critical player that may cause a rival team to lose the competitive edge. if you turn to me and say aghast that no NHL team would ever do that…I will simply point to the recent and repetitive scandals of racism and sexual assault.
I baffled that Dells hit was considered worse than Orlov's slewfoot on Ehlers!

Three games suspension, not good enough, he should've been suspended for eleven game so he he gets the message,he is repeat offender,he got in trouble before and he attempted to injure and took Batherson out of All Star weekend, not right at all
So happy I found this guy. Best hockey analyst ever; super balanced, loves the game more than any team, and I always learn something. Wouldn't want the guy in my fantasy league though…
I never understand pro league suspensions I mean a guy injures a teams best player and gets only 3 games this happens all the time it happened with Ehlers getting injured the other night too

So sad for Drake Batherson, I love that kid and I love the chemistry that the young sens are currently building. This is a huge blow obviously especially since Conor Brown is also injured at least for a couple mors games. Lets hope Drake doesnt need surgery!

As a Sabres fan … thank god dell got suspended 3 games. A Zamboni driver can stop more pucks than him. Can you suspend him for more NHL?

These injuries are really messing up what the Habs may do at the deadline. Hard to sell high on hurt players. Hopefully they're pretty healthy and show off some good games before the deadline

Well Dells hit was definitely interference and the outcome was really unfortunate. But I do find it funny how strong public reaction has been, few years ago when Price laid identical hit on Kreider everybody was just clapping their hands. Basically only difference between two was that Dells hit caused really unlucky injury. I guess that three game suspension is ok if NHL wants systematically to give some kind of retribution for injury.
3 games isn't enough. A goalie has one job, stop the puck. He has a history of doing this and the fact that he was outside of his crease when he hit him should make it that much worse. It also cost him to miss the allstar game. 5 games minimum. He's the only goalie thats being a goon so set an example
Good Dell sucks! idk if houser is much better but hes younger and has done well with his chances and I'd just love to see more of him so we can say he had a shot.

Is it all about the injury to the other player, or is it about the play itself?
Bcs if Batherson does not get injured there is no way that Dell would have gotten suspended for that. On 9/10 plays he wouldn’t even get penalized for the hit.
He sticks out his shoulder a little bit to give the defender behind the net a bit more time; Batherson does not expect it, falls awkwardly into the boards and gets hurt.
The hit is not worthy a suspension, but the result of the hit, the injury, is.
So the question is:
Do we want players suspended for hits that are by rulebook „illegal“, but dont really get called in game by most referees, just bcs someone got hurt very unfortunately on the hit? Or do we want players suspended for hard, unnecessary, illegal hits that dont cause an injury, but very well could?
I would choose the second, but i know that the NHL does not.
I dont know who gets any profit out of this suspension: Batherson does not, hes injured; neither does Dell, it doesnt have any disciplinary effect on him, and it really shouldnt.. he made a play that wont get called most of the times, its not hard, theres no intent to injure on the play and he didnt do anything he wouldnt do again… even with the suspsension.

I am in agreement with suspensions lasting as long as the injured player is out.
I think the department of player safety should have an elected member from the player's union. Then give them more control over penalizing players. The league could still overrule the issue after a hearing. However, I think the players should be involved in player safety.
Just did some maths… I'm about the same age as Carter, and with my salary it would take me about 145 years to make what he makes in the next two years haha
A fellow Sabres fan here. Have never liked Dell, he’s been garbage all year (aside from one game). His dirty hit was pretty much just confirming what nearly all Buffalo fans already thought…Dell is a trash goalie, shouldn’t even be on the Sabres, and apparently quite the dirty player.
Not a fan of the Sens, but kudos to them…they looked quite strong in the game against Buffalo. They have some great young talent.
