Is Simon Nemec the Perfect Deadline Target?

Is Simon Nemec the Perfect Deadline Target?

Pierre Lebrun is reporting that Simon Nemec of the New Jersey Devils is available for the right price at this year’s NHL Trade deadline. That got me thinking, would he make sense for the Boston Bruins? He is a right-shot under team control but would need to be re-signed, and he is a promising young defenseman who just hasn’t found his stride in New Jersey. It sounds like the perfect player for the Boston Bruins, a lot like when they acquired Pavel Zacha from New Jersey. In this video, I’m going to break down who Simon Nemec is, what type of player he is, whether he would fit with the Boston Bruins, and what he might cost.

  1. I dunno Court? I'd like your opinion on lohrei? I still like him but realize he has more to learn in the d zone. But do you give up on him? Yes Nemec would be ok to get but I'm not paying the moon for him. They'll just bring up Seamus Casey and hole filled. I might give a 27 1st and ? But Im one of the few who doesn't want to give up on lohrei?

  2. Let me ask everyone here. Do you actually believe the bruins are one or two players away from winning a cup. They have an awful schedule the rest of the year and one bad week puts them outside looking in. The bruins should be selling whatever they don't want to take into next year. Personally I would have half the roster on the trade block. I'm not saying I would trade everyone but I would make most of the team available. That whole thing about how the bruins owe it to the players to try is baloney. We are not building the 2010s Atlanta Hawks that make the playoffs just to get spanked by an actual contender in the playoffs.. the only thing worse than being really bad is being mediocre and thinking trading the future is a good idea.

  3. That would be diamond in the rough find. Outside the box score for sure if Donnie can pull it off.
    1st and or 2nd or 3rd

  4. He be great addition. Id do potrais an lohrie even toss lysell but .I want hold our 1st picks this draft an next draft are stacked .im in no rush an not willing to part with haggens laternau or zellers. Ya I know its unrealistic Nemec would be great addition. You all have awesome day great video

  5. Clearly the Devils are not after any players to make a playoff run or to even make the playoffs at this point. They would want future picks or a decent prospect/s. I am not for losing our guys in college but the guys in Providence are on the menu. Problem is who in Providence is really interesting to other teams? If they are willing to take a Poitras or Lysell thats great. May have to go with a pick or 2 as well. I dont really know this guy but if he checks a few boxes I am all for a deal for a young talented right hand shot D man. I doubt Lohrei would garner much interest really.

  6. It's hard to not think there'll be a bidding war. For a young rd who's already playing just shy of 20 minutes a night and is a plus? Who plays a pretty good 2 way game and is probably being held back by a team with a couple of high end expensive guys above him? New Jersey would be foolish to not ask for multiple 1st round type assets. I can't see the bruins giving up on Hagens, Dean, Zeller, or Poitras and a 1st and I can't see New Jersey doing it for anything less. And if we wanted them to take a contract back? Which we probably would, one of Peeke, Lohrei, or Joki I'd have to assume they'd want going back. They might charge you extra to take that money. I don't think Boston is one piece away. I think there are teams that might think they are and that could swing for the fence for one player. But I don't think it can or will be us.

  7. The devils need some help in the crease as well as some center depth. I've grown to like Korpi but I wonder if a package of Letourneau and Korpi alongside a high pick would move the needle for them, or potrais too if theyre interested. Like you said he's a serious piece and would be an immediate improvement where we need it most allowing more attention to be spent on developing offensive talent with a reliable d core to back up our forwards. It's not cheap but no team is going to give up value without requiring compromise. Imo he seems like the perfect target for a "hockey" trade.

  8. Im taking your word for it Court. I dislike the devils and never watch them so i have no clue about this guy except for his high draft pick status. If hes a total non physical d man im out, we have enough of those and i believe its part of why we arent great 5v5 or on the pk. And no im not saying we need a basher but Macavoy and Zadorov are the only guys that hit, aspirot will at least pin guys to the boards but lindholm, joker, Lohrei and peake dont touch anybody and i dont think its bruins hockey as coached by Sturm or in the history of the bruins. If hes a lindholm prototype and we want to play him with lindholm, is that going to work? Can he hold the blueline, protect the net front and be physical on the boards and in corners? If so i say get him. Is he better then Lohrei? Lol i probably shouldnt have commented as i have no idea what Nemec is as a player other then hes a young former high drafted d man. I cant even recall seeing him in one highlight pack.

  9. Nemec is up for trade? Are you kidding?
This was the name I brought up when we were going after Anderson

But, Simon wasn't going to be available.
"no way is New Jersey giving him up" from other sports pundits and fans

Yeah – unless there's something we're missing, grab him! Now!
    The sooner the better.

I saw him score a hat-trick against Uncle fliggy and his Hawks buddies last fall.

Just looked at his highlights again -and you nailed it, he knows how to be at the right place at the right time.

And as a result, he's already got a hat trick only third season in the NHL.

From what I can see, he protects the puck well, patience.

    His stats are consistently growing.
    Just looked at them again.
They obviously trust him @ 20 minutes toi

Not alot of time in the sin bin
shooting percentage has increased, perhaps it was the hat trick but he's at 12%.

Yes! This should be a no-brainer.
If he wants to play in beantown?
Get him here, Sooner than later

    I don't know what NJD wants… But,
Figure it out without giving up the ship.

Based on the little I've seen and info on this awesome video, I would give up my precious Mason Lohrei
and a first round draft pick in a deal

    Go git 'em Chara!
    Bring Don with you.

Or maybe that should be the other way around
    🤔

  10. I wouldn't mind going for him if they could unload Lohrei… after watching Lohrei pass in front of the net at lest 4 times the other night vs Philly it is perplexing how bad he is in our own end. A cooler head in the defensive end is needed that is NHL level ( not just a prospect).

  11. #2 overall – speaks to how difficult it is to project how these kids will even a couple years down the road… plenty of high picks are on different teams already. Not counting #2 Nemec. 1st overall still w/ Montreal (Slakfkovsky), #3 – (Cooley) different team, #4 (Wright) same team, #5 different team (Gauthier)

  12. Here is the problem: If we trade Lohrei for Nemec, who wins that trade tomorrow?
Lohrei IS improving…a bit. His defensive IQ will never be top 3, but bottom six offensive d-man is where he can end up having a career. I am not sure Nemec gets better than Lohrei. Even if he doesm will it be worth the package we pay to get him?
    I'm not sold on Nemec.

  13. Makes total sense for the Bruins. Why would NJ trade him over Hamilton? Maybe Nemec has quietly asked to be traded? 🤔 If NJ calls, I'd definitely answer.

  14. I'm not a Lohrei fan though he's not turning the puck over as much as he has (or letting guys blowing past him)…I'm fine with him going and maybe a conditional 2nd.
I doubt anything will happen. The problem is, you never know when one of these kids suddenly figures it out and his game goes thru the roof – which is more likely to happen w/ a 2nd overall. It comes down to what NJ thinks him: of course they'll ask for the moon, but if they don't think he'll improve much more and isn't a fit for their long-term plans, they need to take what they can and move on. Otherwise he's just taking up a roster spot.

  15. So the horrible Devils GM
Will make another bone head move getting rid of Nemec ! Islanders tried to get him at last years draft for The Avs 1 st in this years draft. The Devils need a new GM ASAP

  16. I think this sounds like an interesting, and very smart move. I think a 1st round pick and Matthew Poitras would be a good hockey trade, because Poitras just isn't seeing the ice time to develop his game enough. And I feel from what you said, both players could go to the next level elsewhere. So I would go for that. Another great video. I hope all is well.

  17. Great stuff as always! I look forward to interviewing you! Where is the best place to contact you to set something up brother? 🦊🙏🏻

  18. I think a Poitras and Lohrei trade would be ideal, especially if the Cap hit would be 2.5-3.5 Mil/year over the next 3-5 years. I think Sweeney’s contract negotiations are excellent and the fact that we can afford the cost of high end talent within our available cap space is indicative of the fact that he is great when it comes to making sneaky good contract decisions and is accelerating the retool of this team.

  19. Great fit but, I think a lot of teams are going to be saying that, which is going to drive his price higher than it should be but, I agree, a call should be made if you're Sweeney.

  20. For the right price, this would be a great move. Would rather overspend and get Thomas, but it takes 3 people to satisfy the Thomas trade and Seravalli just reported that Thomas has yet to be approached regarding a potential offer.

  21. Is he a shot blocker? I can live with a leas physical D man if he's a shot blocker. I am a true believer that D men, unless they are an all word offensive tallent shoukd be a good defender first and physically in front of your own net is a big part of that. But an aggressive shot blocker can make up for a lack of physical snarl in your own end.

  22. Yes! He's not exactly the type of defenseman the BRUINS desperately need. But what team would want Simon Nemec? Maybe if he's included in a package trade.

  23. Great video you nailed it.

Accurate player and cost analysis with long-term projection and suitability. If this trade started with a first round pick- I don't think the additional piece would be too exuberant.

  24. Unlike previous trade rumors involving the Bruins, this is a trade I would welcome for the B's. The big if is what would it cost them. New Jersey will probably ask for, at least, a first-round draft pick and a prospect. I have seen the proposed offering of Poitras, Lohrei, Mittelstadt and a first-round pick and this I think is, quite frankly, ridiculous. I would start negotiations with a first round pick and a prospect, e.g. Lysell. If New Jersey balks then possibly add Poitras but ask NJ to add a second or third round pick on their end. Seems fair to me but teams can get greedy when trading away assets. Look at the requests of the Blues recently in trade negotiations.

  25. I would like Nemec. If not, Parayko. Mintyukov would be nice, but maybe trading Lohrei would be the case if that happened.

  26. As a Devils fan, Tom Fitzgerald is an absolute moron. He will trade him for pennies on the dollar.

  27. This one makes the most sense so far.

I'd give them a pick and/or Poitras — a guy in a similar situation, who also needs a change of scenery, because he has no path forward in Boston (behind their current a future Centers).

At this point the only prospects I'm comfortable moving are Lohrei, Poitras, Lysell, and Merkulov (duh, right?). As for picks, because it isn't a rental, I might move ONE of the #1s in a deal like this (the lower one), but more comfortable with a player swap or a #2 (you still gotta re sign the guy).

  28. I would trade for him. I’d be happy willing to give up either the bruins 1st this year or panthers pick. And would be willing to give up both poitrais and Lohrei. Poitrais hasn’t really hit the nhl this year and as much as I like him I want him to be able to succeed and move into the NHL and I don’t think that’s happening in Boston.

  29. Ever notice if the Bs like someone 'they're going to have to pay a premium' yet when the Bs shop a player 'they can't expect much'?

  30. If bruins could get namec and Tippett I’d be stoked.

Def trade away lohrei, poitras,Lysell and a first or two to get both those players

  31. I say no to Nemec. Have not heard of his name till you mentioned him. You don't need to give up a 1st round pick for a 3rd line defenseman. In terms of giving up Loheri , I'd make the deal 1 for 1. That would make sense.
