As a Wings fan it's definitely a suspension, but like you talked about regarding his past history he is a clean player. He also showed remorse which a lot of idiot players do not. Hopefully that is taken into consideration regarding the suspension.
Nyquist doesn't have a career fight and his penalty minutes are very low. My guess is he tried to lift his stick up real high and knock him over but he failed miserably. You could tell by his reaction he regretted it and I still don't think it was his main intent to cut him like that
Nyquist can say how much of an accident it was, but everyone who see the replays can see that he was out for revenge of some sort. He was clearly out to wack Spurgeon back one way or another, and unfortunately it hit him bad in the face.

He should be suspended for the unfortunate event that he didn't control his stick, but it wasn't intent to injure (it was an acceden to to the face). You can tell his glove got caught and pushed up his stick. Watch the video from the last angle. And you can see his body language after the fact.
4-6 games Shannon. He has no history. Wants the hearing. And everything he has done after it happened suggests that its was intentional(the face part). If Marchy wasn't suspended for the slew foots, then Nyquist can't get to much for this. Keith had a record of this stuff and when he slashed Coyle in the face last year he got 6 games. And the Claude situation oh my is the rivalry ever heated now.

I am a Detroit Redwings fan and was at this game in Minnesota. I was in disbelief that Nyquist did this and was embarrassed to be wearing my Redwings jersey in their stadium. We lost this game and I feel this cheap shot ended any and all momentum to win the game.
Damn I was really busy with school during all this shit and didn't watch much hockey. Never saw this. As a Wings fan, this shit can not be in the game. I'm glad he was suspended 6 games and question if he warranted a longer suspension. This was disgusting.

That was an accident. Don´t you see that the other end of his stick hit the glass. When it hits the glass you can not control the blade either.
