Sabres in HOT PURSUIT of Blues Star Robert Thomas | The Jeremy and Joe Show

Sabres in HOT PURSUIT of Blues Star Robert Thomas | The Jeremy and Joe Show

Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase react to the swirling rumors about the Buffalo Sabres being frontrunners to land St. Louis Blues forward Robert Thomas. The guys first bask in the glory that is having other contending teams freak out about the possibility of the Sabres adding a big piece. Then they discuss what the cost could be to make a move of this magnitude, and Joe expresses some concern about what a return could look like.

  1. Not trading 2 1sts for him at all. Where do they put him? Kulich, Ostlund are two guys I'd rather have than thomas

  2. If you can get both Thomas and Faulk to come to Buffalo, you do it. Well deal with restocking the high side of the pipeline as the seasons progress, after all, we will still have talent down that pipeline. Wahlberg, Zeimer and a couple others, but you absolutely make the trade.

  3. TSN's Hockey Insiders discussed St. Louis and Buffalo's trade talks for Robert Thomas yesterday. They also questioned why St. Louis is so eager to part with Thomas and what details we're missing about him. This is something that needs further investigation.

  4. It’s not just that. For a #1 center he’s locked up at a steal of a price by today’s salary standards. Or at least where it’s trending. And Thomas hasn’t exactly been equipped with the wingers to succeed. He’s scored 80 pts with a Jake Neighbors and an inconsistent Buchnevich. This is a 100pts guy with the right wingers. But you gotta wonder if a center isn’t going back in the deal. Because Sabers will have maybe tone of he deepest center core in the league with that move.

  5. Sweeten the pot with 27 first and 28 first and add in Faulk and this would be the best trade in Sabres history.

  6. Behind the curve WGR

1 – You don’t trade Power for anyone less than top 8 in the league as that will be his value in 2 years

2 – Ruff is the coach next year

3 – Yes, the Sabres record is league dominant with Krebs on the top line

  7. Just saw something in the news that said WE weren’t will to go the distance. Per Darren Dreger:

Update: It’s believed St Louis/Buffalo went the distance on Thomas trade talks. Sounds like the Sabres aren’t willing to part with the necessary pieces. (Prospects, Player, 1st). Still teams nibbling, but the Blues are firm in what the return needs to be

  8. There’s a report the trade talks are dead. Sounds like the Sabres offered what they were asking for. a young nhler, a prospect, and a first, but the blues want more. If they offered Quinn helenius and a first and the blues wanted more I completely understand not doing the deal.

  9. Moving Power now would be the dumbest thing u could possibly do… He's having his best szn & is our best defender now he's FINALLY using his size. If anything we need another dman not trade our 2nd/3rd best dman for another forward it makes no sense

  10. I think the most realistic trade would be Quinn Helenius a 1st and Ellis or Levi. I’d rather trade Ellis but they waived him and need a 2nd goalie, also if they’re going to tank maybe rushing Ellis is good for them

  11. I wouldn’t trade Owen Power, his ceiling is still really high. Let’s not overreact

  12. Power had not passed the eye test until this year. Specifically since December, he has played well. If any d-men were to go, it would be Power, only for that reason. He still is young. I'd rather not move any d-men. I'm at the point where I don't want them to make any moves. And I'll add to this, I think the defensive unit as a whole has gotten better, not just Power. But again, I'd rather not move any D for points made of lack of quality depth.
