Who should the Red Wings grab at the Trade Deadline?

The Trade Deadline is nearly upon us, folks. And for the first time in nearly a decade, the Detroit Red Wings are in a position to make a really big splash! So today I decided to talk about the main guys the Red Wings have been connected to, and just how they would fit in the lineup.

Current Atlantic Division Standings (as of video posting):
Tampa Bay Lightning (80pts)
Buffalo Sabres (76pts)
Detroit Red Wings (76Pts)
Montreal Canadiens (75pts)
Boston Bruins (71pts)
Ottawa Senators (66pts)
Toronto Maple Leafs (64pts)
Florida Panthers (63pts)

  1. This is RED WINGS YEAR!!!!! they are totally making it to play offs.. gottah beat them florida panthers out of the standings first. HOW IS FLORIDA GETTING INTO THE STANLEY CUP IS BEYOND ME!! THEY DONT EVEN HAVE SNOW DOWN THERE…

  2. Am I the only one who thinks our D core, Hamonic aside, is fine as is?? They're young, mostly, so they need more experience, which they'll have in another yr or 2. No one questions our top pair. Edvinsson, by my book, is still in his sophomore season, bc his technical rookie season was only 19 games. ASP is a rookie, AJo is very young as well and keeps improving, JBD, also fairly young and inexperienced. Edvinsson & ASP will be rockstars in a couple yrs, JBD is exactly what you could ask for in a 3rd pairing. You don't hear of him much, but that can be a good thing. He will be a solid 3rd pair guy in another yr or 2. So, we could use more experience right now, but I also think our overall team D has improved enough that, backed by Gibby, we're fine to let the D core be and grow up a little, and they'll be excellent overall. Our biggest need, in my book, is top 6 offense.

  3. So that said, I think we need to drop Harmonic and improve at #7 slot. Now if we are looking to upgrade any of the others, I think it would only be bc we could use a little more size and hitting, cuz on the blue line, we really only get that from Mo & Chiarot right now.

  4. Robert Thomas is the one you unload the vault for. Kyrou makes no sense unless Kane is gone? Dude played center in juniors but hasn’t shown faceoff ability at higher levels.

EP40 is the risk reward trade. If he hits old levels, Larkin is mostly the 2nd line center. If he can’t, are we comfortable paying him that money? I think if we pay his full price it’s with the idea that some combination of Rasmussen/Compher going back to help offset the price and they’re going to need bodies down the middle during rebuild, especially if draft luck doesn’t fall their way and they get an NHL ready center in the first rd. I like Rossi, but he’s not built to play 20 minutes a game.

Trochek is the center you trade for if you’re convinced that New York is a one stop shop for all your deadline needs. I’d love to have him if we can get Schneider in the process. With Fox seemingly disgruntled too could we pick him up with Trochek? I’d give up ASP in a trade that has him coming back and Seider and him eating close to 50 minutes a night.

  5. No way should yzerman be ok paying petterson, a sub 80 point player, anything over $8 million dollars even with giving up compher and rasmussen
