Canadians love this family dearly. A silver lining in the loss, but watching the CBC focus on the family after the game and seeing their dad wiping away tears was bittersweet.
We love and support you Merideth. I felt Johnny on the ice today when watching the Gold Medal game and especially during the celebration. Hope it meant as much to you and your family as it meant to me as a hockey fan. Hope the kids had a blast too.
She’s done a few of these tribute games, and they’re all insanely hard. This one was obviously the hardest, and I’m so proud of the boys to pull it off for them. Obviously for Noa and John Jr, especially on his birthday. For the family. Johnny was on the ice tonight. We played 6v5 all night.
The photos were an amazing touch. Kept the cameras off the family for a few minutes. Gave the kids a once in a lifetime opportunity. (It won’t be, USA hockey will be back and Johnny will be with them).

I still remember the first time I watched Johnny play, it was at the 2013 World Junior championship.
He led the tournament with 7 goals and the USA to the gold medal. He was skilled and intelligent
I thought he might have a problem in the NHL, due to his size, but boy was I wrong.
