Toxic Toronto can turn one of the best hockey players into a terrible hockey player. Who would want to play for the toronto maple laughs – perennial losers. I never knew Austin Matthews could smile until sunday February 22nd when he won Gold. We won't see that smile again until he gets the heck out of dodge (Toronto) to a real hockey team that will probably win the stanley cup with him in the lineup. Looks good on a city I stay away from like the plague even though I live less than 2 hours away from it.
This would be the best time right now to try and swing a deal to trade Matthews. More he plays for TO his trade value will depreciate. Leafs have been unwilling over the years to trade their stars. But now there is one big unknown -Keith Pelley. Nobody knows how he will operate and he said he will do whatever is necessary to help the Leafs succeed. Leafs are not on course to contend for the cup for the remainder of Matthews years with them. It would make sense to trade him for high draft picks and young talent. US teams would love to have him and would offer Leafs a bundle. Let's see what happens, if anything.
