The city is pissed, angery, firing everyone – this time last year, they were guaranteeing a Leafs vs. Oiler cup final. Leafs came back from break and laid two eggs, after the city thought Matthews would be charged up from the gold. This morning, they're angry at Matthews, wanting to take the (C) away from him — criticizing him for going to the White House to see Trump, (same with Tkchuck in Ottawa) and not coming back early to practice. Going after them "why don't you care" "you are insensitive" "How come you want to shake Trumps hand?" "Don't you care about Canadians'?" "How come you said this and that?…why????" "Do you think the win was legitimate 3 on 3?", dismissing the dubya, being condesending. As a born Canadian, I truly love the great white north – but today… it is very-very far left, and if you don't think of them instead of yourself, agree with them, they castrate you…. publicly. It's a sick behaviour, free speech is being canceled – they didn't like Matthews and Tkchuck's answers, and grilled them. I'm sure you can go find the tapes. That being said, Matthews no longer wants to be in T.O, niether does Nylander. Its 24 hours hockey talk on both Sports channels, hockey 95% 5% Jays. Raptors highlights only (and they're above early season expectation – 5th in the East). It never used to be this bad, but every year the cup is not won in Toronto or in Canada, it gets uglier and uglier – and for the players there is no escape from demands, expectations and critic… even wanting to know personal things, like they are owed it. The media, fans in Canada for hockey is worse than the fans in Dallas for the Cowboy's, trust me. Canadian players are wanting to leave – too many eyes, too much of the time. There is no off-season, you are under the microscope 24/7.
That being said – how good would either of those players look on the Island? American city – Matthews is dying to play in America. He is 28. Nylander 29, there lots of tread left on those tires. This is more an off-season move – but if you want to push for playoffs. Matthews and Nylander will greatly help that – and won't cost much of the roster. Mostly youth and picks. Lastly – look at guys on the Leafs: Easton Cowan (20) and the media, team, fans are down on him. Something to consider. Another steady pick would be Carlo for the defense – defensive minded. Also, Ekman-Larrson, a little old but could be very helpful this year.
