Kulak Traded Again — And It Looks Bad for Edmonton

Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin react to the breaking news that the Pittsburgh Penguins have traded defenseman Brett Kulak to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Sam Girard and a 2028 second-round pick.

That move now means Penguins GM Kyle Dubas has effectively turned the Tristan Jarry and Sam Poulin situation into a boatload of future assets — and it’s raising eyebrows across the league.

The big question in Oil Country:

Did the Edmonton Oilers get robbed in their original Kulak deal with Pittsburgh?

Tyler and Liam break down the asset management, the trade tree fallout, and whether Edmonton maximized value when they had the chance. They also debate the bigger-picture question: Is Stan Bowman the right GM to have steering the ship during a Stanley Cup window?

Was this just smart asset flipping by Dubas? Or did Edmonton leave value on the table?

Brett Kulak has been traded again… and this time it looks brutal for the Edmonton Oilers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have flipped Kulak to the Colorado Avalanche for Sam Girard and a 2028 second-round pick, and it raises a huge question: did the Oilers get fleeced when they moved him?

Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin break down:
– The full Brett Kulak trade tree from Edmonton to Pittsburgh to Colorado
– How the Penguins turned Kulak into Sam Girard
– What this says about the Oilers’ asset management
– What Girard would have meant for Edmonton’s blue line
– What’s next for the Oilers’ defence and the deadline

  1. The English guy is on some cheap crack! Brett Kulak is way better than what you think he is. Keep acting butt hurt that Kulak is a decent defensive player

  2. Kulak was a necessary piece going the other way, not because they needed Jarry, but because they NEEDED to get rid of S.Skinner. And the only reason they did that was because 97 insisted on it.

When are people going to begin to realize that it's Mcbaby himself that is sinking this ship? He doesn't play defense very well, you all saw it at Milano, he cost Canada the GOLD!! And then he turns around and blames the goaltender.

So long as he is allowed to make roster decisions from inside that dressing room, get used to seeing guys like E.Bouchard get 10million and guys like T.Frederic get 8 year deals.

  3. Always liked Kulak myself. If Colorado just might win the cup this year, I'll be happy for the guy. He was a great Oiler.

I hope he finds a permanent home there, because moving around the contintent of North America like a pinball, definitely has to suck.

Best of luck out there, Kulak. 🍻

  4. I miss Stu…. Jarry’s great though. He’s here to stay people. It’s not his fault we’re losing. We need to get a better defensive core in front of him. Bouchard’s not the problem either

  5. FIRE THAT GOOF BOWMAN I don’t CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, BEFORE HE SCREWS US AND BYE BYE MCDAVID, WE WENT FROM A CUP CONTENDER TO FIRST ROUNDER

  6. FIRE BOOOOOOOWMAN , HES TIED FOR 2nd WORST GM WITH CHOKERELLI CHAIRELLI FIRE THE GOOF BEFORE HE DOES ANOTHER SKINNER MESSED UP TRADE

  7. Kulak is definitely an upgrade over G. He’s been getting dominated in the playoffs every year by heavy teams, Kulak will be a huge upgrade in a 3rd pair role

  8. Girard is making $5 million for another season after this. Kulak is a UFA. This is a complete cap dump for the Avs, hence the 2nd round pick. Kulak is still a good 3rd pairing defensemen but the Avs just freed up valuable cap space.

  9. As an Av's fan I approve this trade 🙂 You guys are missing the key point the Av's accomplished: freeing up cap space for Logan O'connor
