Connor McDavid’s Latest Loss Has EVERYONE Asking One Question… 😬 | FN Barn Burner

Connor McDavid is widely considered the best player in the world, but is he cursed when it comes to winning it all? Boomer, Pinder, and Rhett discuss McDavid’s heartbreaking run of losses, including back-to-back Stanley Cup Final defeats and now falling short in the Olympic gold medal game. The guys debate what this means for his legacy, the pressure he faces as the NHL’s biggest superstar, and whether McDavid will eventually break through to capture the championships that have so far eluded him.

  1. Scheifele should’ve been 3rd line centre, I question some of the players put on the team

  2. I've seen people criticize Mcdavid over committal and giving up the puck – while I understand the argument I don't think it is why they lost. When the puck turns over – Makar goes for a very dangerous swipe/poke check that almost worked – but it got by him. It looked like it was about to be a 3-on-1 in the other direction but then the puck rolls in a way in which McKinnon was there first and for some reason instead of making a play or even taking possession of the puck (and skating it behind the net) he just stops and hesitates – that hesitation was what cost us the gold medal.

Sure you can argue Mcdavid should have played a slower game, one that Celebrini was working towards – to keep the puck cycling, own the possession and hopefully hem them in the zone and tire out the defenders. We've seen it work to great success in the NHL 3v3 OT, particularly with teams including their goalie. It wasn't like McDavid over committed and gave up a 3on0, it really wasn't a problem until Makar also came up empty, and even after that we still had a chance to stop the rush.
You could make the argument Makar shouldn't have made that dangerous poke check, but a) if it did work out it might have been a highlight reel goal for Mcdavid. b) even though it didn't work out, the worst case scenario didn't happen. It didn't turn into a 3-on-1 in the other direction and instead Mackinnon happened to be the first on to the puck.. So truly there is only one guy to pin the ultimate blame on.. He was kind of just there.. While the other two guys were actively trying to win. That's the big difference for me (and not to mention all the missed chances that Nate had earlier in the game that may have meant not even going to OT).

  3. It’s not McDavid. It’s the Carney Curse. Who keeps letting him on the ice with teams. Even got the Blue Jays…. Just sayin

  4. Ive been ripped for saying this on other videos but McDavid is flirting with never winning a Stanely Cup.. If that happens would McDavid go down as the great player in sports to never win a championship?

  5. This is McJesus’ third Silver Medal in 3yrs. He was a runner up twice during the past two Cup Finals, and now he’s a runner up again. At least he won a Conn Smythe plus an Olympic mvp. 🤣

  6. It’s not talked about enough that McDavid lost them the game by going in 3 on 1 and lost the puck and Hughes went on to score the game winning golden goal.

  7. The USA had better goaltending. Jack Hughes is very good on 3 on 3. He wins a lot of ot games for the Devils that way. As a devil's fan they lose constantly to a hot goalie. Canada will be just fine.

  8. Play that game 100 times, and Canada wins 98 of them. Some of you have played. Rhett, you know how these games go sometimes. It was just "one of those games".

Missed empty nets. Comically outplayed them, but they just couldn't get that second goal.

I don't down on this at all. Canadian hockey is looking great, from where I'm sitting.

  9. Makar and Toews made tons of defensive blunders all game. Don’t think they get tested enough on the avs for people to realize how poor their defensive game is.

  10. I know the comparison in the NFL world is Dan Marino with this group. In reality, because McDavid’s career isn’t over. If he doesn’t win a Stanley Cup, then yes he could be Dan Marino. However if he doesn’t win as his career progresses, and staying with the Oilers. He could be somewhat like John Elway.

  11. McDavid can't win because he gets ridden into the ground by the Oilers and now Cooper.

  12. Mcdavid has elite skills, no one better in todays NHL but does not appear to be able to pull the trigger when it counts most.

  13. The stars have to align, you saw how it worked out for Team Canada. Of course the refs play a big part, the ‘93 Leafs were robbed.

  14. McDavid doesn't play a complete game he's a great offensive player but does play in the d-zone at least he could have tried to slide across to block or make it look like he was going to. I believe he was trying to play hero and get the golden goal call like Crosby did in 2010.

  15. McNoCups loser legacy continues, who keeps labelling this loser the worlds best player?! Regular season stats mean nothing when you cant close out a win when the games really matter.

  16. If anyone thinks he was the reason we didnt win a gold, you aren't a fan of hockey being played at its highest level. Is there anyone watching this who wouldn't want him on your team going into a championship. Hes been propping up the sub standard Oilers forever.

  17. I won't feel bad for him as long as he is a Coiler. This Gold Medal loss in particular doesn't feel bad because of what it meant for Johnny's family, and also for Hellebuyck finally getting a big one. McDingus will have more chances, probably, and there's just something about the guy that makes it very hard to find him endearing.

  18. McDavid was great. Loosing in OT is the luck of the draw. Like his teammates he gave his all. We lost, grow up and get over it.

  19. The amount of copium from these three hopeless cases is staggering. I have never seen a professional athlete, be defended this strongly when clearly that player is a loser, an overrated cursed player who routinely does not show up in the biggest moments of his career. Who cares about his individual medals and records… because if the end result isn’t a Stanley Cup or a Gold medal, who really gives a crap!!! Especially when that player is responsible for the loss.

Edit: who am I kidding, Connor McDavid is the LeBron James of the NHL!

  20. Mcdavid is too good for his own good! He's insane but too good. Needs to just pass it to others and see if they score.
