5 Things as a +5 Handicap Golfer I wish I knew sooner

This week I go through 5 things that I wish I knew sooner. These things helped me so hopefully you find them helpful in some way.

There are things that I think will keep lower your scores, I’m not trying preach in anyway as most times I’m just trying to listen to this advice myself.

Got some big things coming up in the next couple weeks so stay tuned and ill catch you in the next video.

  1. Thanks Jack. Just back from bashing 100 balls. Cold night and your spot on with it turning into exercise. Thinking back only about 10 out of the 100 were an attempt to improve. Might need to go back to sharing a booth and playing a mock course with both parties agreeing the outcome. Makes it more accountable

  2. Thanks for the advice Jack! Sometimes we get carried away chasing perfection when in reality we have to be kind to ourselves and enjoy the game!

  3. True, most people remember their best performance and expect it to show up every round. Simply not gonna happen.

  4. Additional comment, can’t believe you’re only 23 bro! Such good advice and mature things that I don’t hear often. Keep at it, looking forward to your future

  5. Great video man as a 8 handicap who's trying to become a scratch player this season this video is very informative. Please continue making content i enjoy the simplicity & appreciate it coming from a local + handicap player. Cheers bud from Calgary Canada 🇨🇦

  6. I found this really helpful as a junior golfer, who is striving to succeed and improve every day working on my mental side and physical side. What would you recommend for some strength building for swing speed?

  7. This is solid advice! I think the biggest one for higher handicaps like myself and friends I play with, there's a massive trap of believing we can hit better shots than we realistically do. Often they may be shots we've hit once or twice, or sometimes, we literally think because we've seen people do it on TV, then we should be able to do it too. The faster you realise you just need to play to your own skill and lower your expectations, your score immediately improves.

  8. I have a friend who will pull out a driver on certain holes because 'if he hits it perfect, he could drive the green' OR 'he could easily make it to the green in 2 shots'. But his driver is often wildly innaccurate with big misses. I try to tell him he should just hit his 3 hybrid which is a lot more reliable and straighter, but it's hard to convince some people to put driver back in the bag and play a shorter club if it's a par 4 or par 5 and they just want distance and power.

  9. Good one mate. It was such an insightful learning for someone like me who is passionate about golf and putting in the time but it is not transferring into visible results. Keep up with the great content. Expecting more in coming days. Happy golfing🤗

  10. brilliant comments and something I will take to the course next time. I'm 11.5 but striving to get to single fingers despite not playing regularly or being a member of a club

  11. Great video. I’m a former +4 handicap, had 2 kids and now I’m back to 0.3. Watching this video, many of the things you discussed remind me of my approach and mentality when I was playing my best. I think it just goes to show that these skills need constant refinement and development… you don’t just learn it once, you have to maintain discipline and practice the skills continuously.

  12. Also, hitting good shots doesn't mean you get to start ignoring your other mental checklists.
