There’s been rumors going around that Tom Fitzgerald may be looking at being buyers and not sellers with a NJ Devils team that’s 11 points out of a playoff position. The Devils are NOT mathematically eliminated and do have the easiest schedule remaining so its not impossible, but the team has been far to inconsistent to prove a winner.
In this video, I go over the most likely trade candidates that that New Jersey Devils can look to trade to restock their pipeline, add some draft picks, and build up for next season. Will GM Tom Fitzgerald try to make trades to save his job or will he become sellers entering this NHL Trade Deadline?

The cap situation might not be so rosy . Shitzy has potential of $6M in bonuses . Last year they had $1M in overages . I'm keeping Nemec getting rid of Mercer . Don't want Shitzy doing anything but clearing space . Let the new GM do the heavy work
NJ is cooked in terms of making the playoffs this season, I think that's pretty clear. However, if there is a move or two that can be made that will improve the roster going forward and the return is effective players with a couple years remaining on their contract, then I'm all for it. As you mentioned, going for a rental right now would be insanity. I would look for a buyer looking for goalie depth to move Daws. I honestly don't have faith in Daws as anything more than a bridesmaid. He's just not a starter in the NHL, at least not in the Devils' system. Move Dougie for sure, and I'm good with moving Mercer for a solid return. Nemec, though… I can't see moving him unless the return is BIG. If Dougie is on the way out, Nemo is the natural choice to step into his spot.
Bottom line is any moves made need to be for next season and strategic, not moves for some belief that a miracle will take place to get in the post-season. Fitz needs to go but if he wants to get a job elsewhere, he ought to be trying to prove that he can make smart moves for NJ before he gets the boot.
If you want the team to be better Fitzy, hand in your letter of resignation.

I am so willing to give up Hamilton, Bratt, Timo, Mercer either/both goalies (no one would want) but he better jot give up our 1st round this yr unless their is someone wit term n young.. everyone but Hughes Nico i would consider mayb keep Gritz cuz he looks good n very likable… shouod b interesting, u should do a live stream for the deadline??? I have 0 faith in fitz doing anything that make sence . Hes proven time and time again hes not gm material. Wish and hope has to end . Management needs to fire him now and let someone else staighten out this cluster.

I'm amazed that Fitzgerald still has a job. I would have fired him after the 23-24 season. Extending Markstrom early for no reason + failing to get Quinn should be the end of this guy. If he makes trades with the mindset of making the playoffs this year, he will set the team back another 5 years. They aren't making the playoffs. This team isn't good. They have no cap flexibility. They have no good prospects in Utica. You can't mess this up any worse if you tried. Fitzgerald has gotta go.

Honestly the Devils should be sellers with every single player available. Also I don’t believe Fitz or Keefe will be fired, if Fitz was going to get fired it would of happened already
Im not expecting much to happen at all as far as trades goes. I think Dougie is most likely but I also think they might end up waiting to move him after his july 1st bonus is paid.
Its been nice to watch current (and former) devils perform well in the Olympics and not have to think about whatever is happening in this devils organization to make almost every player under perform here
I hope not, but his track record is appalling. I'm a bit over this team and would welcome a rebuild as hard as that is to say. I just don't think what we have is enough to go on a run for a few years. The players we have are to inconsistent, injury prone or decent players who are overpaid. The whole thing is a mess and it becomes near impossible to sort out quickly due to everyone's NMC's. Another year of overpromise and underperforming.

I just cringe thinking about Tom Fitzgerald guiding the future destiny of the team with additional moves. In some respects we lost the last 2 seasons because he wasn't able to pull the trigger at the right time when the team needed it. I'm not thinking Keefe is the best guy for this team either but they better not even think about bringing in Torts. The only guys on the team I would keep at all costs would be Nico, Jack, and Jake Allen. I like Jesper and Timo but they are on the next tier. Mercer could have been developed better and he could be a 30 goal guy just like Nico, Jack, Jesper, and Timo but he might need a change of scenery at this point and he made himself expendable this year. Nemec has been clutch so many times I would keep him. And like you said Joe, try for the bridge deal. Dougie has been good since they sat him out but how many shifts can he go till his next injury? They have to sell asap to get the best deal. Luke – I think half the reason they got him was to attract Quinn. So if Quinn goes long term with the Wild, Luke could go, to but we might have to pay Jack a lot more. Like Auston Matthews numbers maybe.
Fitz knows this year is screwed but he’s going to try to make the team look decent at the end to hope it can save his job. The man is a moron.
The last thing this team needs is for Ole Tom Fitzgerald to go Big Game Hunting. Trading away Nemec would be a huge mistake but with what Fitzgerald paid Luke, I feel like Nemec's agent will want a payday that force a trade.
