  1. There is only one sport that is predetermined and that's the NFL with Tom Grossi being the scriptwriter.

  2. Regarding the last point, while there are some games that end up being a little too perfect for it to be dumb luck, it doesn’t really lower the enjoyment level for me. The NHL is an entertainment product first and foremost, everyone is there to put on an exciting show and players are thinking about that on the ice. Perhaps refs are given instructions to only intervene on one side until the game is close again, perhaps players are told by coaches to save their talent for later in the game, but regardless of how it happens I'm just here to enjoy it.

  3. Sounds like they overdue it on commercials for Monday Prime games up in Canada? Never heard Shannon be this annoyed over specific ads. FanDuel digital subscribers in the states had to deal with Tullamore Dew ads every commercial break for 8 months last year. I lost my mind hearing the same ad 350+ times.

  4. Barry Trotz is the Phil Jackson of the NHL: Great coach who just couldn’t make the transition to management.

I think the craziest thing about this is Nick Saban is one of the ppl leading the GM search. I had no idea he was a minority owner with the Preds. That’s freaking awesome.

  5. If Peterson got the start or had to play instead of Gus, you would see the game strategy for MN as full defensive turtle in front of the net. I'd rather have Fleury come out of retirement for a dollar than have Peterson in net. This is also why trading Wally is dangerous.

  6. Losing Lundell was already extremely bad, now with Marchand not playing means the Panthers are OFFICIALLY OUT. Sabres are also on a heater + a win here could mean a 4 point game and a ticket to playoffs. Sabres should completely run over the Panthers here.

  7. How many times have you had to explain that these games are'nt predetermined. No they are not if they were then Crosby and Ovecheckin would never miss playoffs they would've been there every single year. The real problem is that the refs just suck ass this year to a disatrous degree and yes the League absolutely needs to address it. It is very clear to me the refrere's are more concerned about asserting their power over players rather than actually being fair and unbiased.

There are so many embarassing calls they've made this year that anyone with a brain could tell you was bullcrap. It makes it so satisfying when a ref is so clearly trying to give one team a win only for the other to win anyways and make them look really stupid.

  8. In naming players who are supposed to play in the Olympics, you missed that Jonas Röndbjerg of the Golden Knights (really the Silver Knights) who is supposed to play for Denmark is injured too.

  9. I think THG is secretly working with Garry to rig the games. He's secretly a billionaire because of all the money he has made with sports betting.

  10. Two things with the "predetermined results" topic.

    1. If the NHL is predetermining these scores, and some of them are settled in the manner they are, with amazing snipes, and last minute goals? Then, bravo to them for the most choreography ever imaginable.

    2. In this day and age, it's basically "leak central" in every industry imaginable. You can't walk outside without having 15 cameras pick up what you're doing throughout the day. If the NHL is fixing games, and has managed to keep a lid on it all this time, in 2026? Well, again, bravo to them. That would be an incredible accomplishment in itself.

    Moving on……..

  11. As a Kraken fan who was at the game, I did a deepish dive into McCann's recalled hat trick goal. While I'm sure there's more to the story, the bottom line is that while linesmen are allowed to call certain penalties (ones that may have caused an injury I believe), they are NOT allowed to blow the play dead themselves but must report it to the referees on the next stoppage of play.

Even if my exact understanding of the above is not totally accurate, it does appear that they followed the rulebook or the Kraken bench would have been a LOT more riled up. So IMHO it's the rule book that's wrong rather than the on-ice call.

The Kraken won the game anyway and McCann got the 1st star of the game. He humorously apologized to the fans who lost a hat.

So glad that he won NHL first star of the week! The Kraken have been playing so well lately.

  12. retiring right now feels like its an admission that he failed. No doubt he will be back if someone else throws an attractive enough offer at him.

  13. I've watched the game for 60 years. Never have I seen such awful line calling. Goals called back 2 minutes of playing time later after a 2 minute check? Beyond stupid. Call offside and quit the crap.

  14. Of course Matthews wants to stay. What other nhl team is the gravy train for him? He'll probably demand a raise too.

  15. Giving up a draft pick vs claiming on a guy on waivers for nothing is better? Refs need to be sent down & fined

  16. but Shannon, that's what the League wants you to believe : they know people will think "it's rigged in favor of team X" so they actually favor team Y! So that's why we'll always lose if we bet

  17. Huge shoutout to Canner. Best shot on the team, we are definitely more dangerous when he’s buzzing 😎🙌🏽

  18. NHL officiating never recovered after that time they replaced the head of officiating with Andy Van Hellemond, who used their promotion to settle scores and forced a lot of senior referees out, just before the NHL expanded to two referees per game, and kind of needed all those refs. Officials who weren't ready got promoted and that disconnect of mentoring meant the next generation of senior referees mentoring the generation after them were also less prepared to do so. In at least one case a referee was fired just because he wouldn't lend Van Hellemond money when he was regularly shaking down officials for fun and profit. That also meant you got referees getting the best assignments based on paying off Van Hellemond, so that didn't lead to better officiating either.

It doesn't help much that players cheat and lie all the time, to make it harder for referees to do their job, or some guy in Toronto is overturning their call instead of letting them see the video for themselves and make adjustments as necessary. The NFL referees have it right, with a tablet to review the play and 90 seconds to review so it doesn't slow things down too much, although even they can be overruled by NFL Central Command watching the game for obvious mistakes.

  19. Trotz was a great coach. I think he knew his time would be short for GM, so he made big moves that disrupted the chemistry of the team. On paper the moves should have gotten a Cup, but real team comradery is built slowly.

  20. Matthews. Another worldly elite player who's going to have a fantastic career and WASTE IT(with the Leafs and not win a Cup). Unless he gets the Ray Bourque treatment and gets a chance with a REAL Cup team in his final year or two. I'm not a Leafs fan, but Matthews deserves a Cup!

  21. It's a pity to think that AM34 will never leave Toronto, bc he could have had an amazing career somewhere else that would have brought in a lot of new American fans. He should have gone to Arizona. The NHL is stupid for not forcing that.

  22. I see Barry trotz back in the league in 24 months or less. The 'retire' line is just to save face our of Nashville
