  1. We used to skate from around 8 or 9 AM until the sun started going down with occasional breaks while growing up and into adulthood. I grew up on a lake. If the ice was thick enough to play hockey, we were out playing hockey. It was a group of 10 or 15 of us but everybody brought a shovel in case somebody forgot to bring a shovel and water to drink if we didn't just chop a hole in the ice and drink the lake water and we would skate all day. I don't know why a professional level athlete can't skate 10 or 20 minutes straight. We played on a lake where there was no boards and no boundaries so you were skating however far the puck ended up going if somebody missed the pass but the goals were set up and that was the boundary there was no outline if you wanted your team to have the park then you better go chase the puck down and get it because if the other thing got it is their possession when they get back. These guys are professional athletes getting paid in millions of dollars. Don't get me wrong, I have a tremendous level of respect for these athletes. They are the best in the world of what they do. We were kids teenagers and eventually adults skating on a lake playing just as hard but with only gloves skates and winter clothes on, no pads. I just don't understand it.

  2. Its a joke to be honest… its not as if he is that good that sitting for a bit diesnt help more….

  3. This pass from Islanders player at 5:14 was pure shite, never seen such stupid/terrible decision and game awareness.

  4. Title and description has three different statements:
    -Longest Shift in NHL History
    -modern-era record
    -longest shift ever recorded

    make up your minds.

  5. Don’t know what’s more impressive… Hughes’ shift, the fact that the Devils couldn’t score a goal in 6 minutes of 6v5, or the fact that the Islanders couldn’t score on an empty net in 6 minutes of game time.

  6. Keenan left kovalev on the ice for around 5 minutes. He scored a goal to close out the shift

  7. Someone should send this to Jack…maybe he can remember what it’s like when he had heart and his team played with heart…

  8. Kovalev had a crazy long shift too. Mike Keenan skated him almost 8 minutes. He thought that was a reward. Scored at the end of that monster shift.

  9. Nonsense. Esposito used to regularly play very long shifts – like 7 minutes. They have only kept records of shift time since 2008 so the record should just say "longest shift since 2008".

  10. I dont find this very impressive considering I do a lot more than this every time i play pickup, and I have done a ton more playing soccer for 120 minutes with no water.
