Draisaitl Powers Germany As Canada Awaits Quarterfinal | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler & Liam

Tyler and Liam are back from the weekend and ready to talk hockey on a fresh edition of Oilersnation Everyday. The guys kick things off with a look at Team Germany’s quarterfinal win over France at the Winter Games, highlighted by a big performance from Leon Draisaitl, who finished with a goal and two assists. Josh Samanski also found the scoresheet as Germany punched their ticket to the semifinals.

From there, the focus shifts to Team Canada as they await their own quarterfinal matchup, with today’s games still in progress. Tyler and Liam go through the latest storylines surrounding the team, discuss potential lineup decisions, and debate who should get the start in goal when Canada takes the ice.

Later in the show, Olympic curling champion John Morris joins the conversation to weigh in on the recent controversy in the curling world and share his predictions for the remainder of the Winter Games.

To close things out, the boys run through what’s trending around the sports world and hand out their daily betting picks courtesy of bet365.

  1. They didint take Bouchard because of his defensive laps and parako is doing it so he shoudnt be playing plus dougthy and mcdavid have some chemistry

  2. olympic athletes are paid by sponsors I believe. So if Singapore has more sponsors for gold medal winners, they get more money. So tell canadian sponsors to step up!

  3. The Canadian team was successful in 2010 because, being the home team, the Canadian Olympic Federation received increased funding in the four years leading up to the 2010 games in Vancouver. This funding was then reduced to the historical average after the 2010 games ended. Several countries go through a similar feast or famine scenario, just not to as high a degree as Canada does. Same thing happened in Calgary in 1988 as well. A point has been made about sponsors but Canada doesn't seem to support Olympic sports as much as some other countries do. A City state like Singapore fields typically extremely small teams so it is easy for them to give big rewards to the tiny number of medalists they have in any particular games. Norway is very wealthy for its population size and can afford to support their winter Olympians much more strongly than most countries do. Italy has a long history in the alpine skiing events and traditionally fields much smaller teams than Canada does, this year being an exception as they are the host nation. Poland supports its athletes as a matter of national pride and has a much smaller team than Canada. As for the U.S., they have a massive economy with hundreds of large multinational corporations worth many billions of dollars each. The Americans have a huge pool of corporate sponsorship money.

As for the matter of Norway dominating this year's Olympics, Norway has always been a major competitive force in the Winter Olympics since these games began being held. They are usually in the top six or seven for total number of medals won and almost always int the top three for number of gold medals won.
