This is the Tulane coach trying to gin up local interest in his program, nothing more. There were at least 10,000 empty seats at this game. Tulane asked for a jersey change less than two weeks before the game. The game was played at 11 am in late August in New Orleans (that by itself is crazy). Would you give up white jerseys for colored jerseys under those conditions for some last minute request if you were the coach? Northwestern's coach pointed out to the press that, when he was in college, he literally went on a mission trip to NOLA to help clean up after Katrina. In the end, it doesn't matter. Neither team made the playoffs but both are going to bowl games.
