Another Goalie Trade Incoming For Oilers + Canadian Goaltending Debate | Ask Dubey

Team Canada is rolling, Olympic hockey is officially underway, and the goalie conversations are already heating up.

On this week’s episode of Ask Dubey, Dubey kicks things off with thoughts on Canada’s dominant win over Czechia, including a look at the power play, early chemistry, and the stars doing what stars do — from Connor McDavid to Sidney Crosby. But the real spotlight quickly turns to the position everyone loves to debate: goaltending.

Dubey breaks down how John Cooper perfectly handled the goalie conversation, why comparing today’s goalies to legends of the past isn’t fair, and why confidence — not panic — is the right approach for Team Canada moving forward.

From there, it’s classic Ask Dubey, answering listener questions on:
• Why the first goalie off the ice is the starter
• Whether coaches ever try to “hide” their starting goalie
• If the Oilers could realistically make another goalie trade
• Why rushing young goalies into a Stanley Cup expectation is dangerous
• Giving Tristan Jarry time to settle in after a major trade
• How breaks can help goalies reset mentally and personally
• And the importance of patience with goalie tandems

The episode wraps with a fun, old-school hockey story as Dubey shares one of his favourite routines (not superstitions 😏) from his playing days — featuring a scale, a water bottle, and a nickname that got way out of hand.

  1. Dubey, we always hear about goalies 'battling' when the team plays poorly in front of them. But be honest: Can you tell in the first 5 minutes of a game if your D-corps just doesn't have it that night? And if you do sense that chaos early, do you actually change your technical approach (e.g., play deeper in the net, freeze the puck more often) to compensate, or do you have to stubbornly stick to your game regardless? #AskDubey

  2. Connor Ungar needs a shot this season. If they don’t then they can fire Knoblauch after this failed season.

  3. Ingram is playing great, still have Pickard. Don't get greedy and end up with nothing.

  4. If only they had done what every human in hockey knew they should and drafted Wellstedt. But Oilers management is always smarter than everyone else. Sooooooo smart they got Bourgault. You fans just don't know.

  5. I'd be fine asking Dubey about goaltending opinions or even other hockey related topics. But I don't think I'd ask Dubey for anything or any other life advice. Lol. I'm definitely not asking Dubey about advice about advanced astronomy or relationship advice.
