In this video I respond to The Hockey Guy’s recent video on the Montreal Canadiens. I start by giving credit where it’s due — he produces some of the best and most balanced hockey coverage on YouTube, especially considering he covers the entire league.
That said, when you follow one team closely, there are details and nuances that stand out differently, and there were a few areas where I see things a bit differently.
I talk about the idea that Patrik Laine is the only bad contract on the Canadiens and explain why I think Brendan Gallagher’s deal still isn’t good value despite the rising cap, and why Josh Anderson’s contract still depends heavily on role and usage.
I also dig deeper into Montreal’s defensive numbers and how goaltending has factored into those results at times this season, as well as the context behind the team’s penalty totals and style of play.
I discuss the debate over the Canadiens’ best contract — arguing that while Nick Suzuki may be the most important player on the team, Lane Hutson may actually represent the best value relative to what elite offensive defensemen are projected to earn in the future.
I also react to the idea that Montreal could be the next Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup and why that trajectory isn’t as far-fetched as it might sound given the organization’s direction, resources, and market appeal.
Finally, I talk about expectations — and why I believe both fans and players will absolutely expect progress year after year, including deeper playoff runs, because that mindset is part of what makes competitive teams improve.

Thanks for watching everyone! And shoutout to all of you who’ve been following the channel and supporting the videos, it really means a lot 🙏
I’m curious, do you agree that expectations in Montreal are starting to rise, or do you think it’s still too early to expect playoff success? Let me know what you think 👇🔥🏒

Last years expectation was to be in the mix. This years expectation is to make the playoffs. Nothing more for now.
As a Vancouver Islander, listening to a lot of Spiritbox these days. Live I’d drop everything for Slaughter to Prevail. For sheer musicality (and touring Canada soon) Unprocessed. And for weird coolness, Igorrr
Check out Sepultura, Beneath the Remains
Sleep token, wind walkers, I prevail, Loveless, Dayseeker, Bring me the horizon!
The Group, they are all friends ❤😊
I might be naive, but I have high hopes for the playoffs this year. Not a cup, but a good run.
Also, widowmaker by dragged into sunlight. One of the best black metal albums out there
I saw THG's video, I agree with you.
Type 0 Negative.
tool ..slipknot…deftone….in my younger year's
1. Shannon, The Hockey Guy is excellent. He's always trying to be fair to every team. His output is phenomenal.
2. Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. I love Fear of the Dark.
3. Currently, Captain Nick is the best contract. Within two years, young Lane will have the best. Unless, of course, Kent Hughes pulls off a steal with even younger Ivan Demidov.
4. 25,000 will arrive by the end of the playoffs. I'm confident of it happening. It might even be sooner.
5. I'm going back to bed as it's only 05.32 GMT. 😊😊❤❤❤😊😊
Metal, eh? Well you're in luck! I live in Japan and there's quite a few rabbit holes to fall in. Especially female fronted bands.
Nemophila: "dissension", "adabana" and "zen" live. Heavy, heavy shit, and the singer has an angelic voice as well as a nasty growl. She rules.
More into old school Iron Maiilden kind of metal? Lovebites: "Judgement day". Or any live videos
Can't forget the best hard rock (prog, metal, pop, hardcore) band in Japan.
Band-Maid My favorite by far, but not always metal. "Hate" live, "zenshu".. and basically any live video from them is absolutely kickass.
Iron Maiden – Piece of Mind (I'm old)
Sabaton, Ice Nine Kills, Slipknot, I Prevail, Powerwolf, Ad Infinitum, Spirtbox.
Avenged Sevenfold
My favorite band is kind of metal-ish. Dance Gavin Dance is sort of a groovy metal band, but they don't necessarily have a set genre. Really fun band though and I definitely recommend checking them out.
As far as classic metal goes, I love me some Avenged Sevenfold and Breaking Benjamin. For heavy metal/hardcore I really like Ice Nine Kills (they're good if you like literature and film, mostly horror). If you more like pop-punk, I love A Day To Remember. Beartooth is also very good.
Favorite metal band : Deftones
Favorite metal bands right now : Thornhill, Polaris and Spiritbox
Im vibing on some kublai khan tx since last summer. Its more like hardcore but
