Matt Cooke has been suspended for the remainder of the regular season (10 games) and the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for delivering an elbow to the head of New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh in NHL game #1080 yesterday, the National Hockey League announced today. Cooke will forfeit $219,512.20 in salary.

@bigjeezy777 No, Chara is a vet and he should know that part of the ice is dangerous. I like Chara and don't think he intended to hurt Pac, but that was unnecessary. That being said Pac played his injuries up, going from possible career ending to "might be back for the playoffs" stop crying plz.

@bigjeezy777 Of course it wasn't his fault, he just threw the kid's head into the stanchion, that was Joe in the third row's fault just like it wasn't Cooke's fault that he elbowed that guy in the head, he was fighting for the puck too, ya. The puck you claim Chara was battling for was 90 feet down the ice in the corner of his end of the rink at the time and they were out on the far side of center ice in the neutral zone. That story doesn't hold water, sorry.

@RigaFraction Looking at the world through red and blue colored glasses, It was such a dirty hit that the NHL chose not to punish Chara. If Chara had it out for Max in the previous games like you claim, the NHL would have taken that into consideration and suspended Chara. And whats more, Colin Campbell has come down hard on Bruins players the last couple years but no punishment for this hit.

The NHL got it right this time with the suspension. However, I'd have really set an example, and banned him through the entire playoffs.
