  1. Hughes took a shot with Laine and Dach. Third time lucky? I hope so. The Canadiens need someone on the first line to compliment Caufield and Suzuki.
Next year, the Habs will have to decide whether Hage can play centre at the NHL level and if Reinbacher can be the big shutdown defenceman the team needs. The playoffs will also determine if Montembeault and Dobes can perform at the highest level. If the goalies play well and Hage and Reinbacher look good then the focus has to be on finding another Slafkovsky for the first line. The team will be close enough to its window that Hughes can spend whatever prospect/draft capital it takes to get it done.

  2. I wonder if the players would say they are not in their window?! I get the feeling they will be looking pretty hard at what can be done, but I love the idea of letting this thing bake… great point. Your observation "if they can let them grow into this" was spot on I guess. Great episode.

  3. number 47 and 72 are exchangeable we must expect it. there is one element at defence that still needs to solidify the D in MTL a big size tough defensive defenceman. in Laval no 64 is also a possible element that could serve in a trade if it fits in Mtl you have 62 in Laval or no 10 also plus prospects.Habs need to avoid panicking and make the wrong move overpaying that element that will fill the no 6 D in Mtl who can play 15+ minutes a game.

  4. we all know Laine will not be in MTL next season. we should all learn from the Laine situation no? risky stuff when signs are in your face. But if you do not try you never know right? after all Patrick is the reason Habs were part of the stanley cup series last season. It is just too bad salary cap is forcing the issue in MTL. paying 8,7 million for a top power play scorer is a lot of money for that contracts you could have 2 high profil 3rd 4th line players. That would help the habs much more than a specialist on power play. 23 players during the season is allowed. can you imagine in minesota that player at 17 million a season??? to me might be a good player but 17 million is shooting themselves in the foot handcuffing the team to sign good players on 3rd and 4th line that is a must. Or having to under pay players vulnerable to accepting those contracts. both extremes are not good. something will have to give otherwise there will be a day where owners who pay those luxurious long term contracts are handcuffed ?

  5. Sober reminder: "Right now is not what (the Habs) are about". Yeah, this year is NOT our window. We're ahead of schedule so let's enjoy this version of success with the confidence that better things are just a couple of seasons away.

  6. Would love to see the Habs ask Xhekaj to try a shot at playing forward. Would be sound defensively as a forward, loves to hit , good skater, good hard shot . If it doesn’t work , back to defence .

  7. I understand everyone is so hype on Michael Hage, but he is not playing in the NHL yet, nobody has any idea how he will perform playing against grown adults that have years under their belt in the NHL. Let me remind you about Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Everyone said this guy was going to be the golden child for Montreal when drafted and he turned out to be a BUST when he got to the NHL level. He was dominate in other leagues, but not so great with the pros. I think if you get an opportunity to get a Robert Thomas who has been in the NHL and he is putting up 20+ goals and 80+ points on a line with Demidov WOW you let Hage go for sure. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people rant about Hage and he has not played in the NHL nor against grown adults yet. He may not be all that and a bag of chips.

  8. Habs are third in the league for scoring, the first thing to aquire is a big shut down defenseman, not a forward.

  9. There is a reason why the Habs jumped significantly with the Carrier addition then the Dobson addition. Jackeye/Struble not good enough for a playoff run and Reinbacher behind schedule. Go get a solid RHD who can kill penalties and play at least 15 min per game.

  10. Btw the Habs window is the Suzuki contract imo. Also with FLA&WAS missing the playoffs it has opened up earlier imo. Habs can beat anybody in the East except maybe TB with a hot Vasilevsky.

  11. Nico Hischier is very interesting imo. He only has one year left until UFA and does he want to stay in NJ depending on Jack Hughes? He would be a perfect fit here.

  12. The big thing about Thomas is the contract. 8 million for an 80pt center with 5 more seasons left is excellent value with this exploding cap. Utah just gave Cooley 10 million per season.

  13. At this point, Laine is essentially worthless, as he is a UFA, coming off a significant injury, and will have only a couple of games before the deadline. The most likely move would be to dump him in a larger trade that requires his cap space; alternatively, retain his salary and give up picks to move him.

Either way, Laine is probably done as a Hab.

  14. the cake is missing some things .letting it bake without eggs or baking soda will only lead to a bad cake.
hage will never be a habitant .hes top 6 and thats the last thing they need is another non griitty top 6 fw not a center.
    come on guys .

if the habs want to win a cup it will cost them a hage or zarovski.
    gohabsgo.
