I've said this on other posts about this topic. The Rangers got the same return back for Panarin that they got for Reilly Smith. Just let that sink in a bit.

Since as fans we don’t know exactly what other teams he would’ve played for and if Drury tried to make deals with them or how he handled it:. But if with drurys history definitely yes. At least that 3rd should be 2 and if they win a playoff round it’s a first.

This is why you have to be very careful with full no movement clauses. And it's why you never give a full no movement clause to a finesse winger unless the dude literally is a reincarnation of Selanne and is racking up 70 to 80 goals a year. Full scale NMC's should be reserved for top centers, top D-men, power wingers and Vezina goalies like Igor. Of course Drury got fleeced here, but he had zero leverage and zero fallback options. Panarin's contract was a poison pill for the team.

This is all on James Dolan for firing John Davidson & Jeff Gorton & promoting Chris Drury which was a HUGE mistake.
Another roster move displaying Drury's inability to build a roster, manage the cap & assess talent. The fact is that the NYR are slow, old, tied to bad contracts (most Drury's doing) and now have a visible lack of talent, zero potential NHL players in their system and have made lousy draft picks.
I am still shocked the Islanders did not trade for him and that he did not want to go to the Islanders.
Not sure why Drury couldn't demand a guaranteed 2nd rounder and guaranteed 3rd which upgrades to 2nd if they win 1 playoff round plus a guaranteed 5th or 4th rounder
Drury handicapped the Rangers as much as possible by announcing to the world we weren't going to re-sign him and by putting him on the trade block so early. I fully expect more bad trades to come at the deadline. At this point I think Dancing Larry could do just as good as Drury at being the GM.
Complain all you want but Panarin held all the cards. Simple.
Fool, no AHL Wolfpack can't develop players. He might get to play few AHL games this season after his OHL season is over.
So Maybe soon we can trade Gavrikov back to LA since we are rebuilding?

Panarins wife decides where he plays. They were open about her being the main reason for him signing for less money with NYR. She is also now the reason why he signed for less money with a non contending team.
His wife is open about it on her social media and Panarin claims family reasons for him choosing LA only.
Nothing wrong with that in today’s world, just letting you know why he’s in LA
