  1. We talking losing in terms of him walking in UFA, or a trade? It's a young man's game, and if the Leafs continue to get 'older' and 'slower' as AM's contract reaches the end, and continue to flounder without younger talent, then why would he stay? Building a young core takes years, and he may decide to spend his 30s in the sun while making the same amount of money he makes in TOR.

MLSE has no appetite for a proper rebuild, so we'll be rummaging through the UFA pools for guys over the age of 30 and a re declining, like with Tanev, who gets overpaid as a result. All of this in the hopes of getting MLSE another 2-3 home games of playoff revenue; which is exactly what they were trying to do between 2006-2013 when the team was older and slower.

I'm also convinced that without a proper Norris-level, or Norris adjacent Dman on your blueline, your chances of a cup are slim at best. Makar, Hedman, Pietrangelo, Carlson, Ekblad. Not all of those guys won a Norris, Pietrangelo's prolly the best Dman of the last 15 years to not win a Norris, and Carlsson was like 4th in Norris voting the year WSH won their cup.

  2. why would ANYBODY wanna keep this looser? yes. AT TIMES, he is an awesome goal scorrer. he isnt a captain, he plays lazy-loose. there are enough other players out there, that can grow a feather duster of a moustache. but THEY actually want to performe. SUPERSTAR? what the f*** are you talking about???

  3. Amazing having an elite goal-scorer in Matthews; especially his growth in the 200' game. But he's just not the guy. Or the Leafs just haven't been able to build it around him properly. Run it back another year, or move on from the big names next year.

  4. Ohhhhh noooo not Austin Matthew’s. What would we ever do without the most over paid hockey player in the league. The last two seasons have been a struggle for him. Bye bye 👋

  5. Imagine Matthews / Point / Kucherov & Hagel / Cirelli / Guentzel as a top 6.

Would be near impossible with that terrible contract though.

  6. Adam has this unhealthy love affair with Matthews. Ht's a 13 million dollar 30 goal scorer. He's done. Committed to losing.

  7. Auston’s puck control is where he shines. He can make any play from any corner of the ice. You won’t win a puck battle against matthews in deep.

  8. The Oilers would be far too embarrassed to trade to get Stecher back… even though they probably should never let him go.

  9. Deep down, Marner wishes he was still a Leaf. Reilly gonna miss it. Leafs had to move on from them at some point. Literal insanity if not.

  10. 2 years left on his deal after this year and at notable regression in play already at 28.

He plays well for a month or so and suddenly you can't live without him after he played like dog $hit for 18 months.

  11. Reilly isn't bad because of Berube lmao. Reilly is just washed cause his cardio sucks and he can't skate or make good decisions when he's on the ice for more than 20 seconds.

  12. All those guys mentioned at the top about loving Toronto (and being loved by Toronto) would fight. It doesn't actually mean anything to the outcome of a game but fighting, shows the fans that you care.

  13. JT was one of the WORST signings wtf are you talking about , yes he is a great player but was not and is not what the team needed , you had all the offense you needed at the time and you went and got more. Why when your d etc was and is still the problem .

  14. Oilers have less prospects than the Leafs. Not interested in dealing with them at all. I wouldn't want what they have.

  15. Time to move on from 34. He's on the decline and The Leafs aren't close to being a cup contender. Let's extract value before it's too late.

  16. Matthews will go to a team that is in contention for a Stanley Cup, unless the Leafs are willing to pay him as though he has won 5 consecutive Rocket Richard trophy. His chronic injury will make him an excellent 30 goal centre but if he is going to not have a shot at the Cup he will want to be paid more than market value. If he resigns with the Leafs it doesn't matter what the salary amount is as long as it does not include a NMC. Allows the Leafs to salvage assets for the overpay.

  17. Y'all talking about getting rid of these players for picks, then what? To trade those picks to get players similar to the ones you're trading away? Make it make sense… it literally makes 0 sense. Any of this trade talk..McMann, OEL, you aren't going to get any better players in return, OR, trade those picks for better players in return.. It literally makes 0 sense.

  18. Austin Mathews is a great goal scorer and is a regular season franchise player, but like Joe Thornton when on the Bruins, he doesn’t have the grit or leadership to get Toronto a Stanley Cup! The Bruins realized this with Thornton and traded him in favor of Bergeron…sorry (it’s just the hard truth)

  19. That comment may not age well in 2 years. No one will blame Matthews if he walks 2 Summers from now if he doesn't like the direction the franchise is headed. If they look like they are going into a full rebuild by then would you stay?

  20. Ask Mitch Marner how great it is to play for Toronto Adam. Media treats you like a punching bag, fans threaten to kidnap and kill your kids. If I was an athlete I'd never want to play for Toronto and I live in St Catharines that's as close to home as you get

  21. Every player loves Toronto?

Ryan O'Reilly left as quick as he could and picked Nashville lol

Also Matthew’s only signed for 4 years lol. Going to love sending this to Adam when he dips

  22. I disagree with Jesse on his GWG take. Goals are what hockey is about. You may not agree but some goals come at higher pressure times and i think, whether you agree or not, that some GWG stats do in fact provide some context to a GWG vs a garbage time empty net goal

  23. The fact is the chances Matthew will resigns is extremely low because the last time he promised he will resign is subject to the team is continuing being a complete cup contender, since Matthew is their only trade chip to improve the future , with all the established teams in the Atlantic division continue being competitive and the other weaker teams woke up. The chances the Leafs making the playoffs in the coming season is slim, in this scenario 34 is resigning seems unlikely. Most importantly when Adam this dude who has zero intelligence told us 34 is guarantee to resign, betting the complete opposite is a wise choice. I committed my take of trading 34 now when he is healthy is the best option for the Leafs and Matthew himself, missing out this golden opportunity will cost them an extra five years to rebuild. Hope they have learned from the Mitch disastrous decision and to have a conservative approach with 34 who has a injury history in the past three season, once he re injury his back again the Leafs franchise is toast

  24. Adam you seem so positive on your answers but you’re wrong my friend. I’m willing to bet my first born that Matthews will not sign in Toronto. He will be playing somewhere hot. For you to think otherwise seems a little silly at this point. If we are retooling or rebuilding, we should be talking about trading him and not Bobby McMann

  25. These Country Club Leaves will never win a Stanley Cup. Their window closed when Mitch Marner was run out of town. Remember 1967? You’re going to have to.

  26. He’s out of here if the Leafs have another mediocre year next season. Two straight average seasons for Matthews as well. Next season he has to show if this is the norm for him going forward or can he return to his better self.
