Panarin could have NOT waived his NMC and the Rangers get nothing.
Drury also didn't handle any of this well, but considering – at least he got a first round prospect and some picks.

Sorry Rangers fans for piling on. Saw Greentree at LA Kings Rookie Games. Underwhelming at best. Did not dominate either of the two games. Did not score a goal. For a big guy, played on the perimeter. (it was strange that the LA Kings used him as a left winger, when he plays right wing in juniors.) Usually if you have a hot prospect, you keep him on for a nine-game proving stint in the NHL before you have to send him back to Juniors. The Kings sent Greentree back to Juniors well before the end of training camp. And his production is down this season (perhaps that a partner was traded to another organization made Greentree a better player.) Barely sniffed the ice at the WJC.
Surprised how little NYR got for the Breadman, who's still incredibly productive…

Also I wonder how Blue Jacket fans feel seeing Panarin jumping ship again.

I think Panarin controlled this trade from the get go. Otherwise Rangers could have gotten a way better return.
Almost everyone is bragging that they could get more for Panarin than Drury. How? If its true, Panarin blocked all other trades exept one to LA. so in that case price value will be low. And getting very promising prospect with two draft picks for player who doesn't want to sing and block other trade proposals is much better that let him go for nothing.

As a Rangers fan my initial reaction was immense disappointment in the return. Great move for LA and can’t believe we didn’t land an NHL ready player or even an expiring contract to flip at the deadline for additional assets.
Upon further reflection, the Rangers had no leverage here and also tried to extend Bread at a reasonable AAV but he didn’t want to play ball. It was the right move to move him and commit to a true rebuild. It would have been very on brand for us to extend him at 5 years with trade protection which would have hindered our ability to rebuild this team.
Greentree does address our glaring need for high end RW prospect /power forward depth and has the potential to develop into a future Captian.
Just kind of mind blowing that Trocheck might end up landing a larger return than bread. Dark times ahead.

I feel like Drury must have a job offer on the table from the Isles and he's trying to get the Rangers to fire him so he can get out of his contract, a la George Costanza. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of trophies around for him to drag behind his car so he has to do stuff like this in hopes of getting attention.

Disgusted Rangers fan!!…Drury announces he is "retooling" in a publication letter to the whole league!!…Definitely lost leverage…He panicked as the true trade deadline is more than 1 month out!!…Teams have injuries and sometimes are more likely to wheel and deal at the deadline…He HAD to secure a 1st round pick…Squandered our strongest asset…This guy has dismantled a team that led the league in points a few years back…He lost the team's trust with his mishandling of Trouba and Goodrow…Greentree has a significant drop-off 8n offensive output this year…Great shot…Good size…Leadership skills [team captain] but is a below average skater with poor acceleration…That doesn't cut it in the NHL…For this return, Drury simply should have just resigned Panarin…Esp3cially at 2 years with an 11million AAV…Don't want this guy making draft picks…Drury MUST go!!

I have no stake in those teams, but I can’t believe the rangers let Zucarello (go Wild!), Fox, Trouba,now Panarin go. Next we’ll see Zabenajad leaving. That’s not a retool, that’s a flush and wipe! All the best to the Kings! When my Wild traded Fiala to them I thought “WHAT!?”
As caps fan we denied ryan lenoard for panarin funny how rangers ask for lenoard definitely not getting him.
LA management must have been laughing so hard when they offered better picks if they win a playoff round. The Ducks have a more recent playoff round win than LA does.
The issue with the Rangers won't change if they fire Drury or not Dolan is calling the shots. It's why the franchise has been a joke his entire ownership. Everyone pissed at Drury instead of Dolan is hilarious.

Not only did they not get a 1st, they only get a conditional 2nd. And LA is fighting for a playoff spot. Brutal trade for NYR, unreal for LA
Lots of cheap shots at the rangers but the fact is that the rangers could not win with this lineup and this shakeup is over a year or more late .. Lafreniere has been a bust , Kandre miller another bust , and the rangers would have lost panarin for nothing and I’m completely fine with the trade as a rangers fan , they won nothing with panarin they can certainly do just as well without him.. it’s easy to say you could have gotten more but that’s just ignorant when you don’t know the constraints the team was under , again my only knock is it should have happened a long time ago when it was clear the rangers were never good enough to get to the finals let alone win it
