Now they need to unload Trocheck, Miller and Igor. You cannot rebuild a team with a 30 year old goalie making 11 million a year and a 33 Miller on the downside of his career.

People can chant "FIRE DRURY" all they want. The reality is that until ownership changes, nothing changes. It is just that simple. So long as fans or corporations continue to fill the arena, baby Dolan will not change, will have no need to change and will not give a s*it one way or the other whether they win or they don't. You've got to get better than a top prospect and a 3rd rounder for Panarin. And if he refused to play somewhere else as a rental, I'd make him sit out the season or waive him.
The Kings #1 prospect sounds better than any prospect that we have in Hartford.
Gotta disagree with Jon on the "fleecing" — the real payoff is the $11 million in cap space, which hopefully Drury will convert into a couple of decent forwards who can score. As for entertaining an extension, I don't see how that would have accomplished anything. Every GM in the league knows the Rangers were going to have no leverage whatsoever if they did not trade him by the deadline — talk about having a team over a barrel, Panarin would have been able to demand a ton for an extension, or else he walks for no return at all. Reports had Panarin seeking $10m/yr for 4 years! Not a viable position for the Rangers.

Return package was limited because Panarin is 34, 11 mil cap hit, and a full NMC which he had full say where he could go. I am sure he had all of the say possible for his trade and this was the best they could do with the parameters he allowed for them to have. Theres more to the trade than just trading him as an asset because of what he required for the trade.
The question is could the Rangers have extended Panarin for 2 more years at $11 million AAV like the Kings just did??? This deal STINKS from every perspective. Might be the final move to devastate this roster for years to come.

Pamarin memory…when he out-muscled two Islanders in OT, chipped the puck back-hand to open ice into Mika's wheel house and Mika smokes a one timer from above the circles for the win.
This 'Panarin Saga' was a personal 'thing' between Ranger management & Panarin. To Ranger management they've rid themselves of one of the last leaders of the 'Chris Drury coup attempt'. By limiting the Rangers trade options Panarin got his last dig at the franchise. The return Drury 'extracted' is comical. Based on the past draft history of the Rangers the picks are useless. Greentree? Another tweener that will be expected to play in the top 6. A 20-year-old playing Junior. His stats this season have dropped off basically because the guys whose coattails he rode in the past have moved on. Till James Dolan fires Drury, Ryan Martin, the entire scouting staff [amateur & pro] everyone involved in player development, sorry Jed Ortmeyer but you've failed at your job. Basically, a total cleansing of team's management the franchise will continue to be a joke on the ice.
Are the Rangers retaining any of Panarins salary ?
I was listening all day to this and I heard it was Panarin who insisted he needed to be traded before the NHL Olympic freeze because he wanted to use the 3 week time off to get his family situated in the new city he was going to. He has a young family so I can understand that and basically the rangers had no say in the matter because if they angered Panarin he could have said you know what I just want to finish out the year here in NY then come July I will figure out where I want to go and then the rangers would have lost him for nothing. Panarin held all the cards with the full no move clause that Jeff Gorton gave him when he signed him. Better that we got something than absolutely nothing.
The whole NHL knew he was being shopped . RANGERS never had the upper hand in this situation.
Drury traded Panarin despite calling it a retool because he’s a liar and a moron. He is trying to save his own ass. Don’t believe anything him or Dolan say
4 reasons I could think of why Drury let everybody know that Panarin is not being re-signed:
1. to have teams get into a bidding war
2. it would be awkward to healthy scratch Panarin without letting everybody know
3. Drury is lazy and antisocial and this way he doesn't have to call anyone, all he has to do is read or listed to proposals
4. because he knows Panarin will be difficult with his NMC
Why Drury did not want to re-sign Panarin, because he probably figured out that Panarin was trying to tank to get Drury fired.
I think the reason that mental midget rushed is he was scared that teams that Panarin would accept the trade would either be too outside the playoff spot or would use their cap to made some other moves leaving him getting nothing for Panarin. But overall Drury sucks at GM.
What's the problem with the NYR?…..Two words ….Chris Drury…..He needs to go back to managing Pizza parlors in Conn….
With this trade, the most important thing is, that Gabe and other prospects playing big minutes every night. And let them play without changing their style. Let them make mistakes without benching. This is a chance to develop them. They need to play with all there strenght. Let Laf be the playdriver/playmaker he was before the rangers made him remodeling his game.

5:21 The comparison with the JT Miller trade is inapt because that was a trade for a player under contract for another several years. This trade for Panarin is only for the rest of this season. It's a rental. They're not going to get the type of return you get for a player under contract.
Thanks to NMC, we got more back in return for the likes of Kakko and Chytil than breadman.
The NHL should have a Harold Ballard award for owners like Dolan.
I hate drury and think the Rangers should have received a lot more, but Greentree was a first round pick that a lot of experts expected to be a top 10-15 pick. Many say if there was a redo of the 24 draft, he'd definitely be in the top 10.

Panarin's struggles in the playoffs is overblown. Really those were failures of the entire team not capitalizing on his line being targeted. Everything clamps down in the playoffs, and teams aren't going to allow the other best players to beat them. It's like the WR1 luring the double coverage which allows for WR2 and WR3 to tear it up, but if WR2 and WR3 don't take advantage and disperse the coverage, WR1 doesn't get to shine. Hell, even Mcdavid gets shut down in the playoffs for a few games at a time. Artemi will be missed and his void will be felt
Drury need to go, this team is an absolute joke! Nothing he has done, no move, has worked. I would not have kept Planarian long-term but two years? I would have definitely signed him to that deal. We have a few terrible years ahead of us. I guess you build a team around Igor and Fox? What else do we have? Nothing in the pipeline, nothing on the bench!
100% on no reason to drop your pants to the league with that letter. I don't see any other team operating with that much transparency. Possible Drury thinks a letter like that will draw someone out that wants to play in NY? Force the hand of their GM in a trade ,ie Miller
I really think Rangers didn't resign breadman because there was some type of settlement MSG and him with a woman. That's the only reason I can think of for not resigning a 100 point player.
Liam Greentree can't be much worse than Laferniere…..he should be with the team next year playing on top line.
Drury has been a disaster on steroids for several reasons but Panarin has to take some heat here if LA was his only choice. He can hate Drury all he wants, we all do, but that just screws the fans what he did. Unforgivable if true.

I love the copium in here. When they announced they would trade Panarin every comment was "we are getting back a haul" to now " Drury had no leverage". But I'm sure he will get that "haul" on the next trade. What a terrible GM. Why would anyone not just low ball him on any trade proposal moving forward seeing that he literally announced to the world that he intends to trade no matter the price. Look at what the Islanders got for Nelson, a top 30 prospect, a 1st and a 3rd. We got the 134th ranked prospect and a 3rd, what a joke.
The only way to not lose an artemi panarin trade was to resign him.
