  1. The Panarin trade will not happen. Just a lot to do about nothing. He does not fit into their timeline and what they need is defense. Goalies are getting hung out to dry.

As you said, maybe in a couple seasons, a player like this would make sense, just not now.

Hamilton would be a good plan B if they can not get a younger RD that can play middle pair minutes.

  2. The sharks aren’t struggling defensively badly but after last night against Chicago a stronger forward could really help

  3. The costs for Panarin and his age are secondary to defense. It's not that we couldn't grab forwards while hunting defense, but we would lose picks, prospects, and cap space necessary to grab a stud on D. Put aside assets to grab a defenseman or to move up in this draft first, and then we're free to grab skill guys with what's left.

  4. Last night’s game vs Chicago demonstrated that the Sharks just aren’t quite there yet.

It would make zero sense to mortgage the future to get a forward that’s 34 years old.

I’d much prefer the Sharks missing out on the playoffs and landing a RD like Daxton Rudolph or Ryan Lin vs going “all in” simply to squeeze into the playoffs and get thumped by COlorado or Vegas.

In this instance, let’s “keep our powder dry.”

  5. Pararin makes no sense, how about start with giving out guys more ice time. Misa was our best forward in the Calgary game at 10 minutes?? How about we get Sherwood in the lineup first

  6. If they can, they should get him. He's worth a hundred points a season. How many defensemen are available that are of a similar caliber like Bread Man? Freeze starts tomorrow.. tick-tock, GMMG!

  7. Worst $50M to invest in and objectively a bad judgement call

Also, defense always wins championships, no matter the sport

  8. We're not interested in signing him to an extension; he's too old, and won't help us in our best years.
Given that it is a one year rental, if we were to acquire him, I wouldn't give more than a 5th round pick.
Definitely not an early pick and definitely not a prospect.

I'm not opposed to having him for the one season, if the cost is cheap enough.

Don't sacrifice any part of the future for a player who will be 35 before next season starts.

Which forward prospect/younger player do you NOT want… ie, who do you lose to have a 35 year old in the lineup (40 before his contract is over)…

    Musty – Celebrini – Smith
    Eklund – Misa – Chernyshov
    Graf – McKinney – Lund
    Cardwell – Ostapchuk – Bystedt

I'd prefer any of that top six to a 37 or 40 year old Panarin.
Panarin doesn't even try on defense, so he's not a bottom six player.

  9. I’m alright with the trade. I disagree with most of the comments. There’s a fundamental misunderstanding with trades while building any sports team. Yeah we need defense. But you don’t get to pick your timeline. When a piece comes up for trade or free agency, you grab it.

  10. I wouldn’t waste money on panarin, rather use it and bring in some younger talent, for what he wants you could get a good defenceman and forward for sure, for me I take Schneider from rangers and rust from penguins over the summer if can get them, also about the contracts you needs get sorted next year or 2, well celebrini I would say 10-12 million, askarov, I say 7-9 million and smith 6.5-8 million
