Reilly gone, Matthews gone he ain't a leader, Laughton, Stolarz, Carlo, Roy, Robertson, Maccelli could likely fetch some pretty good returns. Build around Nylander who is still young and less injury prone and Knies who is likely the future captain of the Leafs.
TOR should keep Knies, Roy, Cowan, Danford, McCabe, sign Laughton, and pray Tanev gets healthy next year.
Matthews and Nylander and Rielly shoud be asked to waive and shop them around to see what offers are given.
And everyone else should be shopped around to see what offers are made.
Islanders have 22 million dollars next year. They can’t spend that money if they try. We can literally still sign Panarin
I dont mind the trade basically traded Tsyplakov (who doesnt fit Roys system) for Palat, Soucy, 2027 6th and a 2026 3rd swap on terms of cap they have alot of LTIR space this year and have a lot of cap coming off the books at the end of the season Pageau and Lee is 12M combined and a few smaller deals as well and the cap is going to continue to rise I dont think the 6M will hurt them next year I just dont know where Palat fits in the lineup
How much cap space will the Islanders have with Palat next year? Feels weird to bash the trade and leave that detail out.

Leafs are now sitting with a 4.5% chance to make the playoffs and there is only 29 games left. They would need to go 22-5-2 to just barely get a wild card spot. That's not happening. They could end 18-8-3 and still finish 9th or 10th in the east
Mcmann, OEL and Carlo could all get 1st round picks at the deadline. GM's get crazy and overpay

Bobby McMann is a very fast skater, is highly skilled, can be physical when needed, and scores goals. A player like Bobby McMann does not come cheap, he is worth at least a top 5 pick first rounder plus a top shelf prospect. Also McMann currently has a very team friendly cap hit. Since Edmonton this time around will not be picking in the top 5,(the oilers are almost certain to make the playoffs and go deep into the playoffs and when they add McMann they are very probable to win the cup), they should add to the first rounder another first round pick the following year and another top shelf prospect. So here is the trade:
Edmonton gets: Bobby McMann
Toronto gets: Edmonton's 2026 first round pick, Edmonton's 2027 first round pick, Tommy Lafreniere, David Lewandowski
Very simply put, if the Edmonton Oilers add Bobby McMann to their team they improve their chances of winning the cup by a huge margin.

I want to see the Leafs not make the playoffs….but not be so bad that they actually get that first round pick back by finishing in the bottom five ! I may have to start rooting for them to win some games here and there just to avoid that scenario. What a scary 😱 thought.

I'm a big Leafs fan, and while I hate to see them lose, it might be for the best. Even a small rebuild is necessary for Leafs. My issue is that I don't think Brad Treliving will be able to turn things around.
