Jonathan Quick is known as one of the most explosive and unconventional goaltenders in NHL history — but even elite goalies get scored on.
In this video, I break down a goal against Jonathan Quick at the NHL level, analyzing the play from a goaltending perspective. We look at positioning, depth, edge control, and decision-making to understand why the goal went in and what can be learned from it.
I also turn this breakdown into a goaltending tutorial, explaining the “one up, one down” save selection — when to stay on your feet versus when to drop into the butterfly. This concept is crucial for modern goaltenders at every level, from youth hockey to the NHL.
Whether you’re a goalie, goalie coach, or hockey fan who loves technical breakdowns, this video will help you:
• Understand Jonathan Quick’s save selection on the play
• Learn how one up, one down applies in real NHL game situations
• Improve your own goaltending reads, patience, and reactions
🎯 Perfect for:
Goalies • Goalie Coaches • Hockey Players • NHL Fans • Goaltending Nerds
If you enjoy goalie breakdowns and NHL goaltending analysis, make sure to like, subscribe, and comment what goal or goalie you want analyzed next.

I've never even tried one up-one down.
The team was terrible .
Can you review a game of mine
Do Colten Ellis next please. As a Sabres fan I would love a technical breakdown of his play,
Darcy kuemper would be great
So essentially you’re saying Quick was a little too…. slow?
I’d love to get a breakdown. I have tons of film for review
