Why Matthew Poitras’ Bruins Future Suddenly Feels Uncertain

Why Matthew Poitras’ Bruins Future Suddenly Feels Uncertain

There’s a rumour floating around right now, coming from Elliotte Friedman, that neither Matthew Poitras nor the Boston Bruins is completely happy with his current situation.

I take a deep dive to give a little more understanding of why this is a rumour and why it makes sense for both the Boston Bruins and Matthew Poitras.

  1. Love your takes, I think as Minten moves into 2C territory a lot opens up for Poitras especially in the 3C role. The question is where does Hagens fit? Is he more of a wing at the nhl level etc

  2. Ya dont think Eliot needed a crystal ball .they let him heal an mature an cook for trade value im happy to trade him in package with some combos zacha mittlstad an ardvison
    Good video have awesome sunday

  3. He looks a lot stronger on the puck, involved in the corners, and staying on his feet more. He's only 21 and still has time. I want to see him get a legit shot, but there is a logjam on the roster. Not sure how it will all work out.

  4. I thought Poitras looked pretty good against Tampa- he was working on defense and, importantly, he didn't overthink the play and hesitate with the puck on his stick and get crushed with a big hit which was a big reason he hasn't stayed up with the big club. His goal showed poise and that he hasn't lost any of his offensive acuity- and what a sweet backhand, my goodness!
I hate to see Zacha and Lindholm go down but hopefully the injuries are minor and the team doesn't rush them back because they are both important pieces of their respective olympic teams. The Bruins absolutely dominated Tampa at 5v5 with Khusy-Minten-Poitras-Kuraly down the middle… except in the dot (where Zacha and especially Lindholm excel) only Khusy was above 50% at 53%-, and the power play was out of synch, but they can put in some reps in practice and make that better.
As long as Sturm keeps Poitras with Jeannot and Kastelic I think Matty will be in a good position to demonstrate his development. And who knows, mayber when they come back from the olympic break we could get Lindholm-Minten-Poitras down the middle with Zacha and Khusy on the wings. I'd like to see that a few times at least.

  5. IMO the B's keep all of their young talent. Getting older rentals for a playoff run, a run that would probably just be one series is not worth it. Keep the young players, keep the draft picks and build from within.

  6. Poitras has great moves and stick handling. He should be playing regularly on the Bruins whether that is at center or wing.

  7. Maybe if Sweeny didn't sign a ton of Bottom 6 guys to multi-year contracts there would be spots for guys to come up. He also needs to swap to wing with Lindholm, Minten and Hagens the top 3 centers going forward. He's got to embrace a Charlie Coyle type role where he's going to bounce around the middle 6 mostly at wing and occasionally at center when injuries pop up. His value is in utility.

  8. This is tricky, it is only not what happens now but next year. The Bruins have more depth coming up next year down the middle. Maybe a trade this year of Casey Mittelstadt opens some room. And the last thing you want to do is give him away for nothing in return.

  9. Have you looked at the Bruin’s roster, 10 Centers, 2 left wingers, and 1 right winger, that’s very odd, even for the Bruins.

  10. I agree with patience. He hasn’t played himself out of being a prospect, but he’s not pushing the roster yet either plenty of time to decide once other prospects also join the club if he’s a candidate for the Bruins or for a trade.

  11. Seems like Sweeney views Poitras as a chip if the right deal comes along.

Remember when Bruce Cassidy got fired for not developing young talent?

  12. I do not want to lose Poitras. I see so much upside in his game. The Leafs made the mistake with Minten. Let's not be the Leafs.

  13. I would give him another chance, the backhand goal was amazing wasnt it? Let’s see the game against Cats. I like Poitras.
