People say they need to rebuild around Matthews and Nylander no way what have they for years when the yeam needed them the most they have beeen a no show both of them over paided the leafs should see if they can move them for players with heart and emotion and Brad Dingoling needs to go now he has not made a good trade or a good contract just look at what he did in Calgary and with the leafs a firat place team to a team that will not make the playoffs

As a non Leafs fan; I would not want my franchise to build around Matthews. Would I like him as a complimentary player? Sure.
No. He need some better pieces around him. Get some speed around him. These guys have no speed in the offensive zone. I think that's 70% of their problem.

Whenever you guys say "that absolutely cannot happen" that's exactly what the leafs do😂 (but your traits are right)
They have been rebuilding around Matthews for a decade and all they have to show for it is 2 playoff wins. And that’s with giving him a ton of offensive support at the expense of defense and the main problem is they couldn’t score in crucial playoff games. If you rebuild around him with better defensemen instead of pouring everything into the forwards then do you really expect him to score in the playoffs with less offensive support. Right now Matthews looks healthier but it’s not gonna last as he approaches 30. His value will never be higher than it is now, you need to trade him in the next year and get maximum value. It’s diminishing returns after that because he's not going lead you to a cup as the main piece.
What everybody forgets is the Bruins also got a 4th rounder in the Carlo trade. And took a Swedish player who leads his team in scoring in the league he’s playing in. So this guy might end up being a productive starter for the Bruins in 2 years.
The saying “ better to trade a player a year too soon than a year too late” has never been truer with a player like Matthews.

And the fact elliotte friedman cameout yesterday and cleared the noise of matthews leaving and said he doesnt think hes leaving and he wants to stay a leaf thats great news actually and I think moving rielly would make more sense because if you ekman larson, Morgan, beniot and maybe tanev, you could get a number 1 defenceman and maybe adding ekman larson and Cowan in a trade to get the right shot defenceman they need desperately that they haven't had since 67? Morgan could be moved if they plan on moving a core player. I think he would be a the guy to go since hes been here the longest. But you half to get something to replace him thats better

Matthews isn't Captain material, one major issue. By the time the Leafs can even retool Matthews will be end of his contract. Dude is half as fast as he was just 2 years ago at 28YR. Hard sell for this team.
