Kowtowing and coddling a player that disappears in the playoffs for 10 years makes no sense

If you watch how goals are scored against the Leafs its often just a small mistake. They rarely get scored on by Conan McDavid genius, its a missed assignment in front of the net, its failing to clear the puck.

Matthews is not a leader. Period. Super talented, but not a leader of men. Trade OEL and Stolarz before the deadline. Move on from the Matthews, Reilly, Tavares and Domi in the offseason. Simply moving Matthews would be major facelift for the better.

The Alternative Reality
Paul Maurice said it after FLA defeated TBL in 5 games. FLA considered TBL the only real threat in the East. So FLA brought it big time because to them, round one vs TBL was the ECF. And as ALWAYS happens, when you play a stronger team and win, you have a let down. FLA had a let down and TML took advantage to take games 1 and 2 and build a 3-1 lead in game 3. Then FLA woke up and started playing their game. Took over game 3 and won it. Played a clinic in game 4: We will not lose this game! Tied the series and turned it into a best of 3.
The Hard Reality
In a best of three vs FLA with FLA playing at their best, TML got caved in twice.
In a 2 of 3, you get caved in twice.
That ain't "close."
The 25-26 team is the team that got caved in twice.

Matthews is really strong on the puck, great shooter, one of the best scorers in the game. But he's not a leader and we need to turn the page on the last decade at this point. It's too bad, I was overcome with emotion on his crazy debut where he scored 4 goals. I really thought he was gonna be a difference maker but it just didn't pan out.
