The Buffalo Sabres CANNOT trade away Alex Tuch at the NHL trade deadline
Alex Tuch is in the final year of his contract with the Buffalo Sabres, while being the team’s second leading scorer, following a hat-trick in the Sabres win over the LA Kings. As the Sabres continue to solidify their position in the playoff picture, and the trade deadline rapidly approaching, Sneaky Joe believes trading Alex Tuch away would be malpractice and the idea is a complete non-starter. Whether he leaves for nothing in free agency or not. Tuch continues to be a consistent offensive weapon for the Sabres at even-strength and on the penalty kill. What would it take to make a Tuch trade a good idea? Unless there’s a better player in the deal, like potentially Elias Pettersson, the Sabres should hang up the phone on any Tuch trade.
Plus, Alex Lyon sets the franchise record with a tenth win in a row, in a game where he stood on his head. Only way you trade Tuch is if he hasnt resigned by the draft then you trade his rights before he becomes a UFA on July 1st, but Im pretty confident that Kekalainen will be able to resign Tuch. 11 million for 6 yrs .

Fans are predictably eager for Alex Tuch to extend his contract, and while no one disputes that he is a valuable power player, 11 million is unreasonable. That is the salary of a true superstar, not just a strong leader. If he agrees to 9 million, it would certainly be a good deal for the club, but paying 11 million is clearly unreasonable, and it appears that Buffalo fans are completely out of touch. it would definitely be a good deal for the club, but paying 11 is pure madness, and it seems that Buffalo fans have completely lost their memory, because Jeff Skinner's contract, who scored 40 goals in his contract year and received a huge amount of money, taught them nothing.

Tuch is a great player, and if he loves this club (as he says himself), he will extend his contract on reasonable terms.

Kempe in 682 GP has 442 Pts
Tuch has played 94 less game than Kempe, and is only 14 point below him!
Thats around .72 P/GP for Tuch and only .64 P/GP for Kempe.
Tuch’s +/- is over TWICE. as good as Kempe, has only 8 less PPG, only 3 less SHG and they are tied with 37 GWG!
While to me these stats (as well as the things we see from Tuch when he doesn’t have the puck) show me that he’s worth MORE than Kempe, not Less like most people are saying, you can’t argue that he isn’t at least worth the same amount!

After seeing a direct comparisson with Adrian Kempe and knowing Kempe was older, and he isnt a Tuch level player, I would resign him immediately. Kempe is over 10.6mil, and Tuch is worth atleast that. Now I get it for a long term that amount may be heavy but if they get front load it (or if you want to stall the skinner buy out contract so pay Tuch more on the back end) as others contracts will be coming up, but he is a cornerstone and I would even say one of the core pieces.

I like the LTIR proposition for Norris and Kulich and Tuch agreeing to a team friendly 3 year contract with bonuses.
I really hope Tuch takes a more team friendly deal. The reported money and term he wants just isn't realistic, and that was before the report the other week that he's asking more now that they're winning. I love Tuch as a player and you can put him in any situation and he can thrive, but that money for him just isn't a good investment. It would be throwing too much into one basket when we have other players to lock up in the next year or two. Then with Tuch's age we can't be paying a 35+ year old $12 mil until the end of his career.
