Chariot is a much more valuable D than fans give him credit for. We didn't always have the roster that let us move Chariot down. He is a great #4 #5.

Great deal, and the deals are only going to get better as the wings improve, thats why people should not be surprised if yzerman does no deal this year, especially if the asking price is too much. They need a number 3 or 4 dman, and a 2c. Trading kasper or danielson or augustine or cossa, which i guarantee is what teams are asking for aside from draft picks, narrows their window for making a run in future years, unless you can get players who can help make an immediate cup run this year and who are not in their 30s.
Last year, there was a lot of talk about getting rid of him because of his gameplay, even I was on board with the idea.
This year, he seems a 'Born Again' hockey player , and I'm glad we still have him for a couple more years.
I personally think the Toddfather has something to do with his improvement.
As far as Stevie making an acquisition… I say he's getting all his ducks in a row, and I wouldn't be surprised if he extends JVR contract, and then surprises us with a respectable trade or acquisition.
Overall no problems with this signing. He's ery dedicated to the team, but would definitely be best on the 3rd pair and would be great depth for injuries
For comparison purposes: Holl is making 3.4M this year, Hamonic 3.7M…
IMO this is a really good contract.
AND removing the uncertainty of an expiring contract might be like rocket fuel for Ben down the stretch

If he would have hit the open UFA market he would have gotten 3 X 5 mil and if would would have brought in a comparable d-man that slots in as a 5-6 d-man and can move up when injuries happen we would pay that much or more. All the arm chair GM's would have done this or that, get real it's the price of business.
We all saw the negative impact on this team when they didn't resign Perron. Perron was a 3rd or 4th line winger, but he brought passion, fire and leadership. The same can be said for Chiarot, he'll end up the senior 3rd line d-man on a young d-corp.
They should turn him into a power forward😁
