  1. Chiarot deal is not bad or great, its just an average at best or naaa at worst. Ben is playing more as the system strictly states this year, man/man not zone/zone. Sometimes he is completely lost in the D-zone much because he does not have a greater hockey sense and is complicated by the game system that RW uses.

If Chiarot is left in RW in two years (S28/29) and is not moved at TDL to a top 3 contender, then it is on S.Y's head. RW does not have the greatest depth on the defensive side. Chiarot should not be a player that is included in the Future RW lineup 2-years down the road here. Signing him today gives S.Y a deadline of 1-2 years to resolve the internal hierarchy/ironing.

S.f.Y must start doing business with the other 31 teams to find their player and really permanently fill the holes that are in the team (plural). A little patch here and there or FA market really sucks, is not sustainable in the long run.

If any player is going to start taking RW seriously, the RW front office needs to start making the right decisions and doing what it takes to make a team that is a contender. Can't wait to hear S.f.Y final press conference for the season, which is a copy of last year's (plural) except they made it to the PO.

  2. Given some of the pro scouting issues and some pick ups, I am more than OK with this. The pay decrease with the rising cap makes up for the potential of a contract that is one year too long.

  3. Don't look now but here comes the Senators. They just beat the Avalanche. Maybe Detroit can steal 2 points.

  4. "Do you think that's actually true" There's some point where you have to realize that when literally EVERY MODEL says Ben Chiarot is really bad, maybe it's time for people to re-evaluate their eye test and their own views on analytics. We can't pick and choose what stats we like to fit our narrative and reject the other ones.

Why are we acting like we can't do better than this? If Yzerman has to go out and get someone, then he needs to out and get one and that guy replaces Chiarot because we have five starters under control. If it's impossible, then we're screwed. There's so much mental gymnastics involved in defending this deal. It's ridiculous.

  5. Brad, on giving Ben Chiarot term: There are all kinds of nuance as to why this deal is good

Brad, on giving PPG+ Winger Artemy Panarin term: I'm scared of this.

    Pick a lane please.

  6. Agree across the board on Chairot. The other thing I thought of right away is this does give us cost certainty. I'm hoping they're doing this to lead into other deals. If edvinson signs next then that pushes that narrative even more.

  7. What a cool gesture from the team!!! The boxes were great. I am a believer in karma. If you put good into the world, good comes back to you. You guys did and do a good thing with the Jamie Daniels foundation and believe it or not are a relatively class bunch of dudes (not guys, but dudes). Glad the team could do something beyond cool for you all. Definitely reinforces my belief that our team is a classy organization. Those jackets are sick.

  8. WRT Chiarot, it's less than $4M when the cap is going up to $100M soon. I just can't care about it being three years. You can buyout the last year. You can dump it to the bottom dweller at the time. It isn't a hard one to move if it comes to that. He's worth it right now, and it isn't like it is a terribly long contract. People whining about this, IMO, are just looking for something to criticize.

  9. I’m good with the signing. Now, I’d love to see us acquire a left handed shot that plays on that 2nd pairing. My dream trade deadline for this season would be to acquire 2 defenders that make our 2nd pairing a 3rd pairing

  10. The Chiarot signing is the deal-ish they should have signed Perron to.
As for Elmer, the taller players always take longer to mature. It will be interesting to see how much runway they give him.

  11. Giving up Gostisbehere was a mistake more than letting Peron go. Unless Shayne wanted out.
He signed a three-year, $9.6 million contract in 2024 Detroit may not have been willing to match.

  12. I 100% agree with the Chairot signing, 3 years is a good length and his salary drops 900 000 per year, plus he's aggressive, gritty and adds toughness to the team. And he plays wherever he's needed, no bullshit.

  13. Fun fact: The Wings actually have four solid goalie prospects. We just have two (three if you include Postava) that are close to NHL caliber. We could absolutely trade a goalie for help.

  14. I think trading for Tom Wilson would be the best move for the current wings team. Power Forward will help make us tough out in the playoffs.

  15. The most annoying part of the Kings loss was the defense actually showed up when they were the weakest going in

  16. You guys and many others are much too hard on Ben. He does his work and he's our second best defensive guy back there. Well worth the cost.

  17. Loved watching you guys open your gifts. 🔥 Agreed that Detroit has done a phenomenal job with their centennial celebration. Enjoy the well deserved gifts!

  18. Another great show WWP, gifts were a great way to top it off (look amazing). I agree with Brad that the 3rd year on Chiarot's contract was probably necessary to keep the AAV down. If the Wings would have let him walk then found a similar replacement in FA this summer they would have likely had to sign him for 3-4 yrs at probably over 5 mil, so to me this was probably the best way to go.

I'm not sure why Brad just hands the Aves 2 wins in the upcoming games. They are playing their worst hockey of the season going 4-4-2 over their last 10 games, hoping the Wings can at least get a split out of the 2 game set.

If JVR is staying on PP 1, i wouldn't mind seeing Soda get that role on the 2nd unit. I remember in the World Juniors when he scored a between the legs goal from in tight, he has the hands to be able to pull this off and with his size would make it really hard on the goalie to see around him. Right now there doesn't seem to be any room for him higher in the lineup, he looks good on the 4th line but i think he has more offence in him if given a chance. If the Wings are going to take a swing at some kind of bigger trade maybe he should be included in the deal, giving the other team a roster ready player as well as prospects and picks that would be included.

  19. I would.do danielson and a first round pick and rasmuseen for panarin or kyle connor. Winnipeg hasnt been same.team. kyle connor is one of.the best scorers in the league every year and skates with speed. And hes a hometown guy

  20. Chariot blocks shots , moves puck well. You need a guy like that. Hes like.andreas Lilja. We had lilja flr 08 cup run so. Go watch tampas games THEY PLAY NO DEFENSE. Kucherov doesnt come over his own blue line lol. Tampa has jesus in their net named vaselevsky. He has a 1.99 goals against and a .921. Thats beyond phenomenal in this nhl with all the skill.and shot power. And guess whk drafted that goalie? Yzerman did

  21. Supper excited to watch Benny wrap clappers off shin pads from the point, be out of position in his own end, take stupid penalties, make terrible outlet passes, and play a couple shifts of slightly above average D every third game for the next three years!!! Whatever. Go Wings!!!

  22. I think Soderblom has everything to become good PK . I don't understand why with his size , physicality, puck control and reach not to use him on pk

  23. chiarot has never thrived in any spot he's been no matter the usage or deployment. The AAV is not the issue (its an issue but its not the main one), its the playing him 21 mins a night, because he does all the things coaches like and none of the things they don't pay attention to that kill you on the score sheet. Moving him down to 15 mins a night.2 years from now isn't going to help that whatsoever.
