We should buy him out or offer to take on the other half of his cap hit for the duration of his contract so that another team could be enticed into taking him. Either way, it’s costing us money.. So we may as well do what’s in the best interest of the player, right? I mean no team wants to take on a 3 mil contract for that type of player, that’s why he went unclaimed— even by Columbus where he’s already had success! I knew that we had over paid for him and Del Zotto the second that we signed them, the term was even worse… (Exact same situation with Beagle and Roussel, too) I personally hate it when teams bury players in the minors and leave them to rot.. I’m not the biggest fan of Gagne, but it still seems like a sleazy move by management to leave him stranded after going through all the effort of talking him into committing to the Canucks long term. I’m not sure what super important role they expected him to have, tbh? The dude should have just stayed with the Blue Jackets (for cheap) for one more year to prove himself before signing a longer/higher paying contract… I think he got a little greedy when he seen the “stability” Vancouver offered and got enticed. Now he’s moving off once again and stuck in the AHL for who knows how long. This whole thing definitely went sideways, I just feel bad for him. 👎🏼
