A group of buddies and I were ported in Oman, and we went to the beach, we hadn't been on land in months so we sprinted towards the shallow end of the beach (barefooted) and I was the only one who clocked the coral line in the water. My buddy kicked a cove urchin 20 minutes later. We were in port for only 8 hours.
Living the life of an 8th grader. Total freedom and excitement everyday. I had woods and a lake by our house growing up. It was upstate NY, nothing compared to out west. But everyday was an adventure if we weren't playing football, biking, skateboarding. Internet didn't come for another 5 years. I feel so lucky.
