No one! I mean NO ONE is giving up a 1st for Bobby McMan. That's not going happen. Unless you give up Bobby and a 2nd ,MAYBE for a 1st. Probably not though. EDIT' also Toronto does NOT have a #1 NHL goalie. They picked up and signed other teams backups then called them starters… Not one of the 3 is a Starter in the NHL. Never been. Some 2a's , maybe even 1B's. But no true 1A goalie. Edit#2 : Rosehill is one of the better ex-player commentators all around. With respect, he's a good mix of "meathead" ex-player & intelligent articulate analyst. You can tell he's a fan but he doesn't have the chronic blue glasses when looking at the Leafs.

Zero excuse for Matthews to be totally absent during the first part of the season. He's likely only playing well now because he's thinking about the olympics; that is not okay! His number one priority MUST be the Leafs, especially since they are who pay his crazy huge salary.

Remember Jonathan Toews was injured by the jab and had to stop playing for a couple of years because of lack of energy. I believe many of the leafs have been jab injured and appear out of shape and slow because of the jab!!

It’s funny they refuse to blame it on losing Marner but he was an elite 2 way player in the regular season and was the key piece on the PP regardless how he performed in the playoffs. If Edmonton lost Leon to free agency and replaced him with slugs and Edmonton were 20 points worse, would anybody question that he is not a key reason they’re underperforming? But in Toronto, don’t even think it.
How would it look if Matthew's was playing like he did the first quarter of the season but then all of a sudden he's good again.

The leafs were good for literally 2 weeks for the entire season. Then they resorted to what they have been the whole season. Most bad teams will have a good run sometime during an 82 game season. They are what the standings say they are, a lottery team.

I’ve never said this before , but now I think this fits , Mathews is the 2nd best payed player this year in the NHL, and he’s not even in the top 25 in scoring, sorry that’s not even close to good enough! You want to be paid with the best then you need to put up the pts that go with it! He’s disappeared in the playoffs before and now he’s just over a point a game in the regular season, ask yourselves is that worth almost 14 million/year?

After watching my leafs for 47yrs. They have been here many times before. Rosehill says it's not that marner walked. He left and replaced with bottom 6 castaways. Every team in their division improved in the off-season and the team killer gm and an old school coach signed nothing but throw aways and expect a better or even equal season to get into the playoffs. This aging roster is a year older, a step slower, and more fragile. They need 3/4 of the roster to have a great game to win, every single night. Statistically that's impossible.

The year Keefe was fired the inept gm did absolutely nothing about the fact their #1 goalie had a brain meltdown. What did he do? Obtain a plethora of 6th and d 7th dmen. Last season rielly had his worst season ever and neither gm or coach moved him off the top pairing.
Preach dna change and literally resigned every player possible, including Mr-20 in the playoffs. So what was the dna change? The plugs that replaced a top line 100pt player??. Sure…he didn't show up in playoff games 5,6, & 7. Yet still lead the team in points and +/-!!! Oddly enough the leaf offence ran through him. Shut him down and the offence nearly dies.
Thinking this team is even a playoff team is delusional!! Marner walking for a 3rd line center slammed the door on that contender window. No you cant count on. MATTHEWS TO BE CONSISTENT!!!
Should of gone for tampering charges!!! They basically lost marner and replaced him with a handful of Rosehills and expected to be a playoff team and contender still.
Not that I think the result would've been different. But if you were calling for a decision between Matthews and Marner, kinda like what Ujiri did when it came to Lowry and DeRozan. Masai went with the guy who had more heart but less skill, and they won. Here you could say the Leafs did the opposite. Marner will never score 50 unless he has a season of stupid puck luck, but he could or should easily get ya 60+ assists. He did play more roles than Matthews, PP QB basically, PK1, and should've been used earlier in his career, at least tested anyway, if he could centre a line. IDK. Personally I think it was a lose lose cause I wouldn't say Marner has the same character make up for a hockey player that Lowry had as a basketball player. It's just another day late dollar short move by this organization trying to salvage a sinking ship that they definitely helped create. Time to drydock this thing before it joins the Titanic!!!

Well if a Kunitz and Rust type players can be put on the top line with Crosby, and win CUPS, then a Domi and/or McMann type players should be good enough to be out there with Matthews, and at least challenge for the same thing! That's if Auston is GOOD ENOUGH to make the average players better!

Leafs have nothing in the cupboards but they have a lot of assets. Mcmahon, Stretcher, Carlo, Mccabe, OEL, a goalie perhaps., Laughton. They can undo a lot of mistakes right now and speed up a rebuild. Mathews and Nylander have a lot of value. They should hire someone who is a master of scouting young players and just go crazy starting this summer. 3 years from now, we could be on the rise.
After this dispicable homestand I am done until October. The whole team cant be consistent if their lives depended on it! Question: Why is Morgan Reily and Max Domi in the NHL??

Look where they are in the standings, could be in the same spot with a full rebuild of prospects and high draft picks.
