Rasmus Dahlin goes NUCLEAR with hat-trick in Buffalo Sabres win over the Maple Leafs

The Buffalo Sabres walked into Toronto, looking to put the Maple Leafs down in the playoff race, and they did exactly that with a 7-4 win. The hero of this game? Rasmus Dahlin gets his first career hat-trick and two assists to go with it, as he took the game over. Dahlin, who has dealt with so much personally, showing up for the Sabres has been one of the best stories of the season. A look at his goals shows the strength of the Sabres, their defensemen getting into the offensive game. Mattias Samuelsson adds to that with a three-point night himself.

Plus, Colten Ellis comes in for an injured Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and performed very well, turning away 16 of 18 shots. How much can the Sabres trust Ellis going forward? With UPL’s injury timeline being cloudy, but only five games to go until the Olympic break, the Sabres may not need Ellis to start more than one game coming up.

Also, big losses by the Red Wings and Panthers, but Montreal and Boston keep pace with the surging Sabres.

  1. When we do have the conversation about the Sabres being Stanley cup contenders? They have the 7th best points percentage in the league and that’s with the horrible start to the year due to injuries.

  2. Lindy is still an innovative coach 20 years later. A great hockey mind and a coach willing to say “this is the best way this specific set of players can play”

  3. Sneaky Joe is can’t-miss radio for me. Both Locked On Sabres and Jeremy and Joe in the morning are amazing.

But specifically Sneaky Joe. I agree with just about everything I’ve heard him say.

  4. In general, I think people need to cut Quinn some slack as he is still just 24 years old and essentially lost an entire year due to a major ACL injury, a year crucial to his development at just 22 years old. That type of injury often requires two full seasons before a player is truly 100% back to themselves. In his last 10 games, Quinn has 5 goals, 4 assists for 9 points and a +6, (+9 over last 20 games), yet I repeatedly and have seen comments claiming he was invisible again. He is on pace for nearly 50 pts, which is decent in my opinion, give his age and situation. I think part of the issue is that certain fans don't take the severity of his prior injury into consideration, and have already made up their mind, so they will only see what they want to see. Mind you, these are the likely same people who wanted the Sabres to trade away Tage Thompson when he was 23-24 years old and the same people who wanted the Bills to draft Josh Rosen instead of Josh Allen.

  5. Dan J It was his Achilles but still…
I don’t mind quinne his defense is very suspect tho… and if he could be flipped for better I wouldn’t be upset. The problem this 10 games is like a heater for him. And when he isn’t having a great 10 game stretch where he adds points you have to ask yourself what does he add at all?

  6. How has Power played "really well"? He's not physical, even at his size, nor is he really showing offensive upside. He shoots a weak wrister any time he shoots and makes a lot of bad decisions with the puck. He is a pretty good passer, and is somewhat defensively responsible, but very expendable in my eyes. I would genuinely rather have a healthy Bryson playing over him and definitely Metsa. We should trade him while he still has value and teams still look at him through the lense of being a former #1 overall pick. Other than him, lets ride with the rest of this squad!

  7. Keep your eye on Montreal.
Eric Raymond was fired and he has been holding the goal tenders back for sometime. They have been clamoring for his firing since July. Kinda wished they didn’t fire him honestly
