To get younger and better immediately, we would need players like Tkachuk, Roberston, kyrou or thomas.
But who goes and where?
Panarin might waive to dallas bjt not St. Louis or ottowa. So it woukd have to be trochek and lafreniere, plus to ottowa to get tkachuk.
A nice retool is losing oanarin, trichek, lafreniere, plus , for some combo of tkachuk, robertson, kyrou, thomas. Salaries need to be moved out bein panarin, trochek, lafreniere, rhadysh, shesry, vakineinan , zban? Not sure drury can pull off these massive trades.
Not trying to be rude, but you didn’t mention one player that excited me.
I think we need to target players who are going to be good not necessarily players who are good right now.
Players around 24 anything older than 25 is too old
They don't have the draft capital or prospects to outbid other teams for those players.
Context is important, so you are right that point totals are going to look better if the player is on a top notch team. I think the "retool" is a mistake, I prefer a rebuild focusing on young players with NHL ability. Retool is synonymous with impatience & swapping your pieces with somebody else's pieces with the same or worse outcome like the "retooled" Tampa Bay trade which was a disaster. If Rangers can get a 1st & some good prospects for Panarin, I'm all for it. When Panarin goes switch Laf to his normal LW & see what happens. If he still doesn't excel then you trade him. To get younger & faster Rangers may have to miss playoffs a couple more years while they acquire good young talent in the draft & develop what they have at the NHL level. Gabe, Morrow, Othmann, Berard & Robertson will develop faster with NHL coaching than they will in the AHL.
