The San Diego Gulls closed out the weekend with an explosive offensive surge, overpowering the Texas Stars 5-1 on Sunday at Pechanga Arena San Diego. A dominant third period and another strong night in net from Calle Clang helped San Diego split the two-game set and pick up a key home win.
Jan Myšák opened the scoring late in the first, burying a feed from Justin Bailey and Sasha Pastujov as the Gulls outshot Texas 15-2 in the frame. After a scoreless second, San Diego took over in the third with four goals, including a power-play strike and a short-handed, empty-net tally.
Tim Washe led the way with two goals, including the game-winner on the man advantage at 6:42 of the third and a short-handed empty-netter later in the period. Sasha Pastujov added an insurance goal to cap a three-point weekend, and Nico Myatovic sealed the night with an empty-netter of his own. Bailey recorded two assists, while Yegor Sidorov and Nathan Gaucher each picked up helpers as San Diego’s forward group drove the offense from start to finish.
Calle Clang was rock solid between the pipes, stopping 18 of 19 shots and earning First Star honors. San Diego finished with a 42-19 shot advantage and went 1-for-5 on the power play while holding Texas to 0-for-2.
