To me Romanov is probably going to be something the Canadiens really need for quite some time and that is a dynamic puck moving defenseman and a defensemen who has a great touch offensively overall other than Petry and also he's left handed so if this young player develops quick he going to play with Weber a lot sooner than later whose right handed, I guess a lot teams in the league make a deal about that but at the same time I totally understand why, to me I'm expecting him to be the replacement of three defensemen in terms of offensive abilities but they could still play decent enough or good enough defense and that is markov, subban and that really good young prospect sergachev that the habs use to have that I heard about that I didn't know what he was really going to be but now I know because of how he plays in Tampa..
To me subban, sergachev and markov are the closest thing to a two way defenseman because Weber is an elite stay home defenseman but offensively the only thing he got is his powerful slap shot on the power play and it's not all that accurate, it's just a hard shot, I remember that defenseman sheldon souray a former habs player who had a powerful shot on the power play but he also had great accuracy with it too, that's why he scored so often on the power play because it's not just his hard shot that made souray scored but defensively he was no where near the level of Weber defensively, but the statement I'm trying to make here is that Weber is a great defensive defenseman but offensively he doesn't give you a whole lot and for Petry he's a great offensive defenseman but defensively he was known for really struggling for the past few seasons with the habs, but so far this season he's been better for sure because maybe it's because he has a better team or maybe individually he just improved..
But as great as markov was he never won a james Norris trophy as the top defenseman overall and he's never came close.
Subban reached that level a few times and won that award and was nominated a few times.
Weber reached that level too but never won that award but he was nominated a few times I think when he use to play for Nashville.
Petry never came close to winning that award for sure.
But for sergachev and Romanov who are very young NHL players, they have that potential to reach that level for sure winning a james Norris trophy or just being in the conversation, I really think so.
Victor hedman is the best two way defenseman the NHL for the past few seasons, he really makes things happen at both ends of the ice, before it use to be drew doughty but los Angeles kings haven't been relevant for a while now.
Not sure about where the emphasis goes, ROmanov or RoMANov, but when the V is at the end of a word in Russian, it's pronounced like an F. So Romanoff. Like Smirnoff vodka. The Russian spelling would be Smirnov.
With the way the D corp is rolling, I think it is set up just the way it should be barring an injury. Sure, if any of the top 4 go down to injury, move Romanov up, and play Mete or Fleury in his place, but otherwise he is just where he needs to be.
I will never stop saying that Bergevin makes the biggest steals… each time there has a hiden car in his pocket .. that 2cond pick trado from chicago ….
Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with Weber by the end of the season. I wouldn't touch the Petry/Edmundson pairing, they're really effective together, but I did find the Chiarot/Weber pairing a bit lacking so far this season although it is still early and they're winning anyway. So who knows?

Rick Green is the best. Loved him as a solid stay-at-home defenceman for the Habs and love his insight (and stories) on this panel.
Ro-MAN-ov!
Romanov and kulak are probably as good a 3rd pairing as any team in the league

Very good puck-handling, good speed, smart play, and can score. Bright future. Love this kid.
How's Madisons doing these days ?
I agree with Stu, no need to rush him… he's gonna be here for a long time hopefully Go Habs Go Respect 😎🤘🇮🇪
As a Canucks fan, I verify this player is a budding star….

Romanov is a future first pair D he will replace weber at some point

He should shine especially with both net minders. Team should have a good goals against avg. this season.
Maybe rookie of the year….
