Wings fan who feels like it’s a win win. Bit more risk on the Wings end but can work out for all if we can flip Leddy
Disagree on the overpayment comments. We've had a ton of picks recently and a late second doesn't really matter to us. Leddy can easily be moved for a 2nd or 3rd at the trade deadline. As you mentioned, he's also a mentor for Seider and improves our PP. So realistically, we get Leddy for a couple million dollars and move a 2021 pick for a 2022 or later pick
I think the trade would have been fairer if the 2nd round pick wasn't in play. That seems like overkill. I would be ok with a late 3rd rounder but the value of a late 2nd on a severely rebuilding team seems like too much to give up right now
This is a first part of a three way trade. The Wings part here is protecting Leddy during the expansion draft. Look for the second half of the trade after the expansion, with the wings getting a first or similar for Leddy.
What the Wings really give up is Cholowski (possibly) to trade a second for a first.
giving mo seider a better chance at winning the calder is worth a 2nd rounder in my opinion lol
It’s about Seiders development. Not that hard. Red Wings have no leader ship.
LEDDY is a shut down d man. Hope to see him with Kronwall.
The comment at the end hit the nail on the head. We can't wait forever to be competitive. He's a solid if not spectacular Dman and the real value is teaming him with Sider. Both teams won
We still have 2 more 2nd round picks in the draft. We could afford to give one of those up for immediate help on D. Plus Panik was just a rental and gonna get traded again anyway.
Redwings get 3/4 of a season of him and trade him for a third, I see this as a win
I disagree Red. Wings easily got the better of this deal. Ate you serious? and if. Leddy doesn't pan out he's good trade bait
Good luck. Nick welcome to the. Red. Wings
The. Red. Wings are becoming the "permanent student" it's time to graduate go to work and compete and hope fully win. Good move by the. Red. Wings
Leddy actually had more points then cale makar
Leddy is still a good defenseman, nowhere near where he used to be but he’s still serviceable
And he’s very good offensively
I had a thought to this what if the red wings were told they were gonna lose stetcher that's an extra 1.7 million replacing paniks 1.5 million
As a Wings fan I feel Yzerman overpaid a touch, but if Leddy plays well…a playoff contender will absolutely want him to shore up their blue line. With that said the jury is still out on this deal…will know more come playoffs next season. I am excited the Moe will have a better tutor than what the Wings previously had to offer. Fair trade both teams.
A good trade for Detroit. I thought Leddy played great in the playoffs. Plus their defence needs improving.
It's a win win for both organizations. The Islanders get to shed cap space, get something in return for a big contract set to expire in exchange for a late 2nd rounder and serviceable forward in Panik. Yzerman is still doing what he has been doing the entire time. He is picking up expiring contracts from teams in exchange for future assets, either for draft picks directly, or for a veteran who can be flipped in a future trade. In the mean time, Leddy will fill a hole defensively, provide veteran leadership, improve powerplay, etc, but he is primarily an asset to be sold for more future assets. Ultimately, Islanders get the most short term value, but the Wings will get the most value overall in the longterm.
Not worried still 5/6 yes out from league dominance.. This redwing team will be full of smart fast players soon..and x Tampa stars bet
Yzerman getting his vet to mentor the young D plus trade bait to get back the pick? Doesn't hurt us just a transition move.
I think it worth it giving up a 2nd round pick for a good mentor for your franchise d man. This trade was a win win situation
Nick leddy trade:Biggest trade yet!
Every trade after that:Hold my jock
I wasn't expecting a lot of changes at NYI, but Lou knows what he's doing. Maybe Parise comes?
Trade John Tavares to nyi
Solid trade 👍
The Islanders drafted Aatu Raty with the second round pick they got from this trade
