Demidov is great, but he's not the reason the habs are winning. Schaeffer is quite literally a game changer for the isles. I'm unbiased to either as I'm a flyers fan but if I had to pick one guy to have on my team for the next 10 years, it would be matthew schaeffer 10/10 times.
He makes the most positive impact for his team of any other rookie. Points are great, but Demidov isn’t THE guy in Montreal, and for good reason. Schaefer is THE guy in Long Island.
Simple. 1) he’s a dman, and dmen usually aren’t projected to score as many points as forwards. 2) he is currently top 15 in points and 4th in goals amongst all defenseman, not just rookies. 1 goal less than noris favorit cal makar 3) he has already broken several records in the league. Records previously held by legends like bobby orr 4) he is quarterbacking the pp 5) leads all rookies in time on ice 6) leads all rookies in powerplay goals
