  1. I mean…kinda? It was thought to be a down year for high end draft picks at the time. Some depth, but no real superstar value. Stützle would have been the closest to that, and the hindsight #1 for sure. Ottawa did alright in that draft.

I did think Lafreniere would be more of a consistent 60 point guy, though.

  2. I love how people blame development
They gave him so many opportunities.
This is on him just never living up to the potential.

  3. Forget about him being the first overall pick. Look at him for what he is today. He’s absolutely not a top 6 player, he’s a 3rd line player. The league average points per game for a third line player is 0.35 points per game which is around 35-38 points a year which would actually make him an above average third line player. The bad side is he’s almost making 8 million per year. If he was at a much lower rate based on his production it would make him a much more attractive player but at that rate plus point per game production he needs to be moved.

  4. He was projected as maybe borderline generational, not quite a Crosby but close and it was known he wasn't the best skater at the time but his success in juniors combined with high hockey IQ made for high projections. I think what you're saying is partially accurate and the bottom line is the Rangers can't develop talent. Part of their development staff is freakin Tanner Glass! 'nuff said lol

  5. For someone reason I thought he was a 5’8 skill guy like Bédard, not a 6’1 power forward, maybe because he was drafted with byfield who’s like 6’6, made him look short

  6. At the time I thought that my Red Wings got burned in the draft lottery. Not only did we fail to win any of the three lottery picks available with the best odds, but we lost Lafreniere to a playoff team (so far – and hopefully forever – the only team to make the playoffs and also get first overall pick in the same year – not counting picks aquired in trades).

But overall it worked out for Detroit. Given today's hindsight, which player would you rather have on your team today: Lafreniere or Lucas Raymond? (After Lafreniere went first, and the other two lottery winners made their picks, Detroit selected Raymond at #4 overall).

  7. They had a chance for a franchise with all that young talent even had 2qulity Goalie for a bit..Kakko is playing well now

  8. I'm actually glad they got the first pick over the wings that's also the reason they changed the draft after that
