The Canucks Just Won the Kiefer Sherwood Trade

In this video, I react to the Vancouver Canucks trading Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for two second-round draft picks and defensive prospect Cole Clayton, break down why the Canucks made the move, what Sherwood brought to Vancouver, and how this trade fits into the team’s short and long-term direction. I look at the value of the 2026 and 2027 second round picks, explain why Sherwood’s market ended up where it did at the trade deadline, and give my honest take on why this deal is actually a win for the Vancouver Canucks despite some fans being disappointed a first-round pick wasn’t involved.

  1. I WANT THAT BATMAN JERSEY.

..Other than that, I think it was a solid return for Sherwood. Loved him on our team, but fully embracing a proper rebuild.

  2. Love Love Love Keifer! Wish him all the best. Thank you for giving your all to the Canucks. We will miss you

  3. I've been a fan since 1990. These players aren't my boyfriends. Sorry, kiddos. They're millionaire hockey players and for the team to get better they need to get rid of guys over 25 and rebuild properly, something they refused to do going back to 2013. Pay me now or pay me later. Given that the philosophy hasn't changed from own management group to another since 2013, today is the beginning of me judging this management group. So far, so good. They got fair market value for a 31 year old who has never scored 20 goals in a season but hits hard and is perfect for a playoff team – something the Canucks aren't even close to being. Let's move on from these contracts as much as possible and draft and develop well. No shortcuts. If it takes 4-5 years, so be it. Do the job right. Let's become contenders when this is all over.

  4. a freebie/ free signing turned into a two second round picks. way to go. now who's next? let's sell everyone who's available

  5. VaNcoVeR cAnUckS 🤪 will get third overall pick… eat a whole bag of old d—s Nuckhead 🤪 this is what you get for pumping the tires of the nucks 😎

  6. its absolutely mind boggling that in a year where celebrini and bedard were #1 in the draft, canucks decided not to tank those years to draft them. Instead they chose a year where the draft class is most mid in recent years to tank

  7. One of the few guys left you hate to see go but the rebuild is assured at this point. Now we just need to find a team dumb enough to pay for E. Petterson's contract.

  8. You know there are twins in this draft, Liam and Markus Ruck that are from BC and are both projected to go in round 2. One shoots left the other right. It would be perfect

  9. Who needs him?! who needed Quinn?! who needed JT?! who needs to be competitive?! but HEY, we got Demko, who plays a few mediocre games every year!

  10. Anyone who was thinking Sherwood was getting a 1st plus was on drugs.

He’s a 30 year old winger who’s scored 40 points literally once in his career.

In what world is that worth a 1st +?

I’m very happy with the return. If Allvin hits on just 1 of those players, that’s a huge boost.

  11. It no doubt is sad the Canucks have moved on from Kiefer Sherwood, a physical forward, whose absence may very well be missed. That said, there had been no sign of a contract extension, and that made it prudent for the Canucks to trade Sherwood to a team that appeared more likely to qualify for this postseason than the Canucks.

  12. It'll be a good trade if we get some players who have the same drive to win. We need more players like Garland and Sherwood

  13. my opinion is that we should have traded Evander Kane over Kiefer Sherwood the dude has been a defensive liability all year he barely gets into scrums he takes a bunch of unnecessary penalties. Not only that he has barely scored at all. We shouldn't have traded Sherwood

  14. It only took Sherwood a couple games to become a fan favourite. Plays his heart out every shift and hits everything that moves. Getting two 2nd round picks for a middle 6 winger is pretty solid. I wish Sherwood nothing but the best and I just know Shark fans are going to love him.

  15. The exit interview makes me love the guy even more. Another American who loves to play here and wanted to stay. 😢 ah well had to done

  16. I wish we were a contender and could have kept Kiefer. But I think this is the best for both player and team. Hope San Jose make it to the playoffs.

  17. still remember when hughes ask canucks to get sherwood because he was just too hard to play against. you need guys like that for the playoffs. and why are all these guys falling on their knees? everyone knew he was going to be traded. lmao.

  18. I think the 2 2nds was also a reflection on his recent drop in production. If Kiefer was keeping up the same pace(35+ goals on the season looked possible), then the 1st as a return seemed pretty reasonable an ask.

  19. A single 1st rounder was asking a lot, IMHO. 2 2nds is similar to the Luongo trade, which was a trade made from a bad bargaining position back then. So I consider this trade a nice haul.
