How did Flames do on return for Rasmus Andersson? Do you like trade for Golden Knights?
How did the Flames do with their return for Rasmus Andersson? Do you like this trade for the Golden Knights? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.
The VGK became stronger in the short term. May be the dearth of first round draft pick talent will affect them in the future. Vegas has a knack for picking up talented NHL players at the right time. The Golden Knights have been Stanley Cup contenders since their inception. Other Pacific teams that kept their draft picks have not been as competitive as the VGK. So, who knows? If Calgary drafts a Celebrini, Bedard, MacKinnon, or Makar type player, then Calgary have the edge.
I believe this trade puts Vegas in the small club of top contenders for the Stanley Cup.
If he wasn't going to sign, not much choice. When you give players autonomy, your future negotiations get tougher and you risk getting less or nothing in return. Calgary did ok
Impact on Performance: The absence of state tax is a strong factor for many players, with surveys showing a large majority (over 86%) say it matters in their decisions, contributing to the success of teams like the Golden Knights, Panthers, and Lightning . Vegas and FLA get all the big FA. Win now every year. No tax must be nice. Oh wait Gary says it is not a big deal.
Calling an unproven 7th round draft pick a prospect/asset is a bit rich. And Vegas winning the cup is a long shot. Retaining half his salary? Horrible deal. Why did Craig push it? Why not wait? Andersson (and Coleman) are the hardest working Flames. And we're only 5 points from being in the playoffs. We won't finish lower than Vancouver and a handful of other Western contenders, so our chances to get #1 are slim. I just don't get it. Why purge the best players for next to nothing?
A first a second. I like Zach Whitecloud #4 guy in Vegas. Penalty killer 29. He's had trouble staying healthy. No offensive component to his game. The prospect is a former 7th overall, doesnt make the top ten vegas prospect list and vegas has a weak prospect group. Its a fine return two picks including a first, a player and a "prospect". Andersson is a #1 defenceman and 29 with some offensive upside. Big Andersson fan
The Flames did well considering Andersson had them over the barrel-he refused to include an extension as part of any trade. The Flames had very little leverage.
If he signs in Vegas long term, that second round should turn into a first. This trade is fkn dumb if we get hosed because he said no to long term then signs long term anyways and Calgary has to eat it again.
I think the main thing is, if you trade players 1-2 years before their deal expires, you'd avoid the whole UFA/extension tangle, big risk in even waiting till he was a rental, he would've had more value when there was a few years left on his deal at a significant discount. We danced with the devil with Lindholm letting him play half the year, and it worked, but eventually not being proactive and forward thinking, can hurt you. Even though it's worked with a few players; mightly concerning the few amount of times we've traded players without them asking out or them being in the final year of their deal.
depends on two things if vegas wins a cup this year. Both are un protected picks. could lead potentially to high 1st rounders. that would be a win for Calgary. A late 1st and late 2nd not so great.

This guy is such a bad sport for not wanting to come to Toronto. He could have played with countryman, OEL.
Conroy is another one of bettmans puppets trying to ruin another Canadian team.
Who cares, Vegas did what they had to do, cause they want to win.

⚔️ Vegas Golden Knights will win the Lord Stanley Cup in 2027. 🏆
The likelihood of vegas winning the cup is very low. So it’s a second. Get over that it’s a another first
is this a joke? did flames win trade? hell no

Big Andersson fan
Flames robbed em
This trade sucks
Flames are done and Conroy should be fired…
Any experienced Fantasy GM fan would manage assets better than Calgary has

He is not worth a 1st rounder so the fact they they got more than that for a rental is a clear win.
It doesn't matter. Flames suck! Regardless.
Lmfao the Flames bent Vegas over on this trade… Andersson is not worth all that crap, especially the picks… Wtf Vegas? 😂
Whitecloud won a cup! lol
He was leaving anyway, so i would say the flames did very good.
They robbed Vegas

Calgary Flames do well with trade in situation
