Hey Dan! I really enjoyed the game. I felt it was a 'goalie' game as both goalies were outstanding! Kept me on the edge of my seat! I thought there were a few times we got 'too cute' trying to make an extra pass, that should have been a direct shot, and takes some chances for a rebound shot. But, overall, it was a well played game. I knew the shootout would probably kill us, but, as you said, it is what it is. . . Have a great night! Will try to catch the live show tomorrow if possible. This was an unbelievable game. Looked like high-flying playoff hockey. Shilovs played out of his mind. However….I think it's time for Sid to hand the shootout responsibility to someone else. Credit to his effort to try and get Vasy tripping. But i cannot imagine after 65 minutes he has the legs for a shootout. He also just really doesnt have the moves for that environment.
Why is it so difficult for players to follow the plan? I'm sure the coaches stress crashing the net or at least creating more interference in front, and yet they don't do it….why not?
2 goals in their last 3 games. Pens scored 1 goal, ZERO goals, and 1 goal in their last 3 games. Pens gave up 2 goals, 1 goal, and 2 goals in their last 3 games. Sid is a repetitive CLOWN in the shootout. PUT KINDEL in the shootout. Seriously.
Hayes gone and only the Novak line was suspect. 3 out of 4 lines were good. Now get rid of Novak and all 4 lines will be consistantly productive. Novak simply doesn’t bring anything to the game. Its frustrating watching him with and without the puck All three defensive lines were very good. This is the way.
St Ivany has been playing very well. Kulak although his first 3-5 games I was worried he was no different then graves. I have now turned the corner in his play and he has grown comfortable and has played consistent. I am optimistic his play will continue to be consistent. Clifton is currently a good defensive sub for injuries although his penalty minute have been an issue in games he has played. Get the mantha, brazeau, Malkin line back together.
Arthur was good but his shoot out skills are terrible. All you have to do is at least one fake and you score in the shootout. If playoffs were resolved by shootout I guarantee they would switch goalies for the shootout buttttt since they are not I agree no switch and let him try to get better although I don’t see much improvement coming there. I have never seen a goalie be that bad for that long on shootouts. It is awful. On positive note his game play skills have been mostly solid.
5 of 6 games at home and we only have 3 points…if we don't win the next 2 home games, this team is just a possible wildcard team at best… Sid's OT effort improved his grade tonight, otherwise he was a D…lazy line changes, terrible cross ice passes, a stupid penalty, and for the love of God, NO MORE Sid in the shootout…he's terrible… What a move by KD to get Chinakov
They literally took the #1 team in the east that had won 10 games in a row to a shootout… the only concerning thing over the last few games has been the lack of scoring.

Why not just let these other younger players do the shoot out cause the veterans are not getting it done

Ask coach: What specific actions are you taking to improve the shootout? If he has no specific answer, recommend his firing.

The NHL needs to do away with the "loser point". The idea in and of itself is stupid.
