Paul Maurice in Much Better Mood, Florida Panthers Bounce Back against Washington Capitals



Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice meets the media after his team beat the host Washington Capitals 5-2 on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.

The Panthers were coming off a 9-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes the night before.

Uvis Balinskis scored for the second straight night; Florida also got goals from A.J. Greer, Sam Bennett, Anton Lundell, and Carter Verhaeghe. Daniil Tarasov made 22 saves.

The Panthers conclude their six-game road trip at 3-3 and play host to the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.

  2. Balinskis proved he is worth keeping. You sign him, he scores. He is a keeper/no trade material. Bob's performance in Carolina is telling us he could use more rest for a while. Danil can handle it, and he looks like another keeper. In general, the D played very well. Bjornfot a bit better and more solid than Sebrango (who seems to wander a lot). Just my opinion, but I see no reason to panic and make some big trade. See how the team does when players start coming back. Even if it's just Tkachuk and Marchy, we are already a much better team. Then if you get Kuli or Jones back, that's another BIG step up.
